Rep. Kennedy to deliver Democrats' State of the Union response

Source: Politico

By HEATHER CAYGLE and SEUNG MIN KIM

Rep. Joe Kennedy, a rising star in the Democratic Party, will deliver the Democratic response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union on Tuesday, sources told POLITICO.

Kennedy (D-Mass.) is a closely watched member of the House Democratic Caucus, not only because of his famous last name but for his future ambitions. Many Democrats expect Kennedy to follow in the footsteps of his elders and run for Senate when a seat opens in Massachusetts.

“While President Trump has consistently broken his promises to the middle class, Congressman Kennedy profoundly understands the challenges facing hard-working men and women across the country,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a statement.

Kennedy, 37, rose in national prominence last year after delivering a series of speeches blasting Republican efforts to repeal Obamacare and criticizing Trump’s response to a deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va.

3 months since the last "Ooooh, A KENNEDY!!" lovefest, he'll at least be able to add this speech to the padding that makes up most of his resume.

I'm not just tired of electing amateurs and incompetents, I'm really tired of those who insist on it.

Here is a young man who HAS the creds regardless of his name.
And he is "younger, newer blood" that appeals to the next generation of voters.

What is it you want, if not Kennedy?

My god. He's giving a speech.
That is a really unfair comment.

Dang. He is a Democrat. He represents exactly what I hear young voters, progressives & Democrats, liberal minded & those concerned for this nation's future saying they want.

I will gladly stand this bright fair minded young man up against the most dedicated established politician we have & know without a doubt he can speak & talk policy with the best of them.

His bio of credits & accomplishments are his own , & is far more than his name.
That problem is on the naysayers own limitations. Not Rep Joe Kennedy.

young Joe Kennedy could be a powerful force in the Democratic party, but it is still too early and he is still too unproven, to take up the mantle of Democratic leader. Every time someone gives a dynamic speech, people are quick to pronounce them the next President of the United States.

Unlike the republicans, we have a lot of really talented people to choose from. We should take our time and choose wisely.

Anonymous asked: Which presidents were redheads?
The physical characteristics of our Presidents sometimes vary depending on the sources, so this may not be a 100% accurate or complete list of Presidents who were redheads at some point in their lives, but here we go:

•Thomas Jefferson
•Andrew Jackson (red when he was young; grayish-white as President)
•Martin Van Buren (red when he was young; white as President)
•Rutherford B. Hayes (reddish-brown hair; red beard)
•William Howard Taft (Taft was said to have “chestnut” colored hair, which seems closer to red than brown)
•Calvin Coolidge
•John F. Kennedy (reddish-brown)

We (me and Obama) are tail-end boomers & Harris is on the cusp for being an X-gen. Kennedy is cusp for the Millennials.

I think younger boomers have a good 10 years to assert ourselves but we are still outnumbered by the peak boomers who are now in their early-mid 60s but who seem to have gone missing from these types of races. Can't seem to break the hold of the earliest boomers, who along with the WW2 babies, are still very prolific and active out there!

the young people I've talked politics with. Most of my exposure is through my kids who range from 30-35. Some of my oldest boy's friends are in their late 30s/ early 40s, and the rest range from late 20's to mid 30s. They all seem to be thoughtful, tolerant of different, and community (local to global) oriented. They (as a cohort group) are our last best hope. They have people and the environment/ sustainability at heart.
