President Donald Trump, fresh off a victory in the Senate that puts him a step closer to passing a huge tax-cut bill by year-end, and with the U.S. stock market near record highs, declared himself unbeatable for 2020.
Unless they have somebody that we dont know about, right now were unbeatable, Trump said Saturday at a Trump Victory Fund finance breakfast in New York City.
Trump said, without elaboration, that new numbers just came out backing up his assessment of the electoral landscape. The White House and the Republican National Committee didnt immediately respond to questions on the numbers the president was referring to.
One of the reasons is whats happening with the markets, whats happening with business, whats happening with jobs, Trump told about 450 attendees at the midtown restaurant Cipriani -- the first of three fundraising events for the day that are expected to raise about $6 million.

(431 posts)He knows he lost the majority vote and has done nothing to reverse it. Dems should see that and focus on those key states.

How innocent you are of any wrong doing
How much smarter you are
How respectful of women you are
How you aren't a useful idiot for Russia
How the tax plan is great for the middle class
Problem for you is the rest of live in reality versus on fantasy island.

(10,791 posts)Fucking moron. Only 14% of American employers offer 401(k) plans, and only about a third of the eligible employees are contributing to them.

(20,232 posts)They only offer a choice of mutual funds chosen by the employer. If those funds don't perform well, and most do worse than index funds, well tough shit. They're worth investing in to get your company match if they offer it. Unless you are able to make the maximum contribution, many folks are better off with a standard or Roth IRA.

(2,559 posts)Two employers I had in the 1990's had very good 401k's, with Fidelity. A good choice of solid funds; company stock was not one of the choices (there was an employee stuck purchase plan, however).
Later on I had an employer in 2015 with a horrible 401k plan, with very high fees for basic stuff like index funds, and no company match. I maxed out my contributions anyway, for tax purposes, and rolled them over to a Vanguard IRA as soon as I left the company.
401k's can be good for employees for the following reasons:
1) Much higher contribution limit than IRA's
2) Often the employer will match employee contributions up to a certain point
3) 401K funds have unlimited protection against creditor judgements.
IRA's can be good for individuals because:
1) They do not require an employer involvement
2) There are usually far more investment options with an IRA account, often with lower fees
3) IRA funds as of 2015 are federally protected up to $1 million from creditors. However individual state laws may be higher or lower.

(65,337 posts)My employer has zero input into available funds, and the selection of choices involves at least 30 options.
Perhaps you were thinking of 401a retirement accounts, not 401k.
All that said, how is getting to save retirement money on a tax deferred basis, a rip-off? Not having to pay interest on earnings and dividends greatly adds to compounding and is quite to the benefit of the saver.

(4,742 posts)No one polls any individual states about 2020 until much later. It would be a waste of money. And what is polled state by state is approval ratings. And they ain't good anywhere for him.

(23,984 posts)assuming he lasts that long (if he doesn't run in 2020, that kind of makes him unbeatable by default)...
he did an excellent job last year of making the campaign all about him
any discussion of HRC was restricted to her e-mails with a sprinkling of Benghazi
with help from his Russian Troll Farms, the media was saturated with Trump agitprop 24/7
now it has its own momentum - Russian trolls not even necessary
all the focus is on him, one way or another
meanwhile, states' elections infrastructure has not improved nor have soft money sources been regulated, while multiple state legislatures have gone out of their way to make it more difficult for people to vote.
by 2020, thanks to Trump's FCC, the internet will be pay-to-play on a scale we cannot even imagine now; don't count on it for organizing, smart campaigns are probably setting up their phone trees already.
if he survives a legal takedown from Mueller, he will be a formidable opponent regardless of the state of the nation in 2020.
people citing feel-good poll numbers now are walking right into a trap. remember how the corporate media works: if shit is shitty, it's the liberals' fault, and if things are okay, it's because Trump "made it great again." that's what we are up against, that's what we need to overcome, and polls today aren't reflecting events of the next 2-3 years. hell, even when the numbers were current in 2016, they were misleading and flipped on a dime after Comey reintroduced the e-mails.
i don't see signs that our leadership understands this; doesn't mean they don't but i haven't seen any signs.
