Former Bush aide: GOP is 'over' if they let Moore serve in Senate

Source: The Hill

BY JOSH DELK - 11/22/17 09:32 AM EST

Former George W. Bush administration aide Tony Fratto said Wednesday that if Republicans allow Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore to serve despite the serious sexual assault allegations against him, then the GOP is "over."

Fratto, formerly the deputy assistant and deputy press secretary for President George W. Bush, is a longstanding critic of President Trump.

Trump all but gave his endorsement of Moore on Tuesday despite the stories of nine women accusing him of misconduct.

"We don't need a liberal person in there, a Democrat,” Trump told reporters on the South Lawn of the White House.

There is no longer any shameful limit for right-wing voters in this country. trump could start wearing a red swastika armband, delivering quotes from "Mein Kamf" and order the construction of concentration camps, and his supporters would still back him. Who could have predicted that our country could be dragged down to this pathetic level? Democratic Party leadership, where the fuck are you? Robert Mueller, where the fuck are you? Our time is running out.

as a group, and many will act out at that level until their world collapses on them, too likely ours included. That's what happened in Germany, and to their deaths many of the worst denied and refused to repent.

I've expected better of them, as a group, every election for over 20 years now and they've always proven my dwindling levels of respect spectacularly mistaken.

Just like they'll be "over" if they elect Trump.

That party has made the (correct) calculation that there's enough of a core of people who will literally choose the GOP pedophile over the Democrat every single time, coupled with just the conservative leaning people who just don't pay attention enough to know what is going on or be aware of the details that they can keep this up for a long time.

...and even allowing this freak to be a viable candidate for a Senate seat can't sink lower.

They've lived on promoting racism, contempt for the poor and religious orthodoxy since the 1960's. It's working for them.

This situation speaks to a population of venal, ignorant and racist people in this country. The problem is us, Americans.

The more horrible and immoral they are the more dedicated and entrenched Replican voters become.
Moore is only one more step in the direction Republicans have decided to double down on and their voters will never turn.

In the short term, they'll embrace it. In the long term they'll say it wasn't a good idea and everyone will forget about it.

No price paid at all.

Republicans are vile treasonweasels. Nothing stands between them and going to Hell.

I have to say this is one of the forbidden pleasures I'm experiencing these days: former Bush coup goons shining up their flag pins and enjoying their new status as servants of the New Second-Worst President Ever, and standing in front of the press to pontificate about what they would do instead.

It's like watching Oliver Hardy doing a critique of Stan Laurel's competence. "I would have done something equally stupid, but totally different." Hilarious, if the results didn't hit me straight in the gonads.

They won't expel Moore. They won't impeach Trump. Once they have their entire program in place and the courts packed with hard right idealogues to prevent it from being reversed they'll gladly step aside and let the Dems take the blame for the inevitable shitstorm that occurs.
