Tillersons Fury at Trump Required an Intervention From Pence

Source: NBC News

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was on the verge of resigning this past summer amid mounting policy disputes and clashes with the White House, according to multiple senior administration officials who were aware of the situation at the time.

The tensions came to a head around the time President Donald Trump delivered a politicized speech in late July to the Boy Scouts of America, an organization Tillerson once led, the officials said.

Just days earlier, Tillerson had openly disparaged the president, referring to him as a “moron,” after a July 20 meeting at the Pentagon with members of Trump’s national security team and Cabinet officials, according to three officials familiar with the incident.

While it's unclear if he was aware of the incident, Vice President Mike Pence counseled Tillerson, who is fourth in line to the presidency, on ways to ease tensions with Trump, and other top administration officials urged him to remain in the job at least until the end of the year, officials said.

2. For the optics. White Houses don't like too many resignations in too short a time.

I suspect tRump's regime may be setting records for high level resignations.

It may accelerate.

What is really mystifying is why a man as astute as Tillerson accepted the nomination knowing full well that tRump is a moron. He must have something corrupt going on with Russia &emdash; Putin gave him a medal.

to government records that will be helpful in his current and future business dealings. Ethics mean nothing to this crowd.

unlike trump whose only goal is his own profit and ego.

with Russia he would help to move towards lifting sanctions but doing it through a "non corrupt" way . like working with other countries .

but on issues like north korea and even domestic issues like trump defending the white supremacists. he didn't expect or want any part of that.

That is how it looks to me as well. I think Tillerson was Putin's choice for Secretary of State, but even with that, he is still too ethical for Trump's White House. I'm sure he is having serious regrets.

9. Tillerson's job is to help Putin build the oil pipeline through Ukraine.

Trump’s bizarre behavior made it impossible for the administration to get Congress to lift the sanctions against Russia. That’s probably why Tillerson called Trump a moron. Trump had one job - get the sanctions lifted.

7. Tillerson because of Exxon Mobil but i don't think he was as corrupt/traitor as Manafort

i think it was more about how Putin thought Tillerson's business connections and what he would gain from lifting of sanctions would help in actually lifting the sanctions.

and while this may have been true just on this one issue they did not expect there would be other issues where tillerson would have some conscience which would not make it worth it.

and i would say Pence is far guilty on the Russia investigation than Tillerson is.

11. Well, I dont see Tillerson that positively at all. He only cares about one thing.

Tillerson is there to get the oil pipeline through Ukraine. Trump is there to get the sanctions against Russia lifted. Trump is not getting the job done. His antics are preventing it.

He ought to resign today, and walk away with what self-respect he has remaining.
