World leaders skip out on Trump to avoid the embarrassment

WASHINGTON Leaders of some of the worlds most influential or controversial countries skipped Donald Trumps debut at the United Nations rather than face the prospect of being caught up in an embarrassing controversy by the unpredictable U.S. president.
The list of state leaders missing the international event is long and growing. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are two of the highest profile absences. But there are many whose faces were noticeably absent during Trumps aggressive speech Tuesday on confronting North Korea, terrorism and communism, including Germanys Angela Merkel, Englands Theresa May, Venezuelas Nicolas Maduro and Mexicos Enrique Peña Nieto.
Back in 2009, when former President Barack Obama first stood in the General Assembly hall, he was the fresh-faced leader who inspired hopes for a world that might put racism behind. His staff fielded dozens of requests from world leaders who sought to be seen with the young leader who weeks later would go on to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
With Trump, however, foreign leaders have learned that you never can tell how a conversation, public or private, with Trump is going to go.

(19,199 posts)I'd like to leave the country to save myself and my loved ones the embarrassment of this mentally defective "president", who was elected by proxy of the Russian government and the worst of the worst Americans.
I wish Mueller would do something to save our country. It's painfully obvious the Republicans don't give a shit about our country, or they wouldn't allow this pretender to occupy the White House for one more minute. He's a disaster, for the country and the Republican party, but I guess they have a death wish because the Democrats are going to sweep them out of the House and Senate in droves in 2018. Screw 'em. I hate them, and if they never win another election it'll be too damned soon. After what they've allowed our country to endure, and continue to allow our country to endure, they should have absolutely no input about what happens in this country henceforth.
I'm totally disgusted. I'm beyond fed up. If Russia loves Trump so much they can have and KEEP the son of a bitch forever!

(81,222 posts)In response to your comment "If Russia loves Trump so much they can have and KEEP the son of a bitch forever!" I agree!
But frankly, it would not surprise me if they DID wind up with him. I can't help but suspect that one of these days, when the Mueller investigation hits some sort of critical mass point, suddenly all traces of all trumps will mysteriously be gone. Nobody in the White House. Nobody at Mar-a-Lago. Nobody at the golf resort in New Jersey. Nobody hiding out at Camp David. Because they will have vanished in an unmarked plane, in the middle of the night, flying to "safety" somewhere in Mother Russia. And reporters will be fanning out all over Washington and New York and Florida, trying to figure it out. I bet he runs and hides when the heat's turned up.

(19,199 posts)that thought had crossed my mind some time ago, but Trump would suffer massive property forfeiture if he was under indictment. Maybe! We all know the laws of our land are different for the wealthy than for regular Americans. As much as I'd love to see Trump and his family lose a billion dollars or so, I'd dearly love to see them serve prison time instead. There's something noble about the incarceration of the wealthy ruling class in our country.

(81,222 posts)So perhaps there's hope.
What I keep in mind is the unnamed Intelligence Community individual who was quoted, way back at the beginning of all this, as saying about trump: "he will die in jail."

(1,408 posts)The crickets in the room to his pauses where he expected applause, were priceless.
And then, when there was applause, it was, to be generous, less than tepid.
At least they thought, at times, he was funny.
Mores the shame.
The speech made it more evident to the world, what a sad, pathetic, bag of rotten meat and putrid water he really is.

(22,651 posts)No invites by other world leaders means he has a lot more time to help Republicans hurt 'middle/lower class' American people and 'bully' hurt a couple 'red-headed stepchild' countries.
