Trump Humiliated Jeff Sessions After Mueller Appointment
Source: NY Times
WASHINGTON Shortly after learning in May that a special counsel had been appointed to investigate links between his campaign associates and Russia, President Trump berated Attorney General Jeff Sessions in an Oval Office meeting and said the attorney general should resign, according to current and former administration officials and others briefed on the matter.
The president blamed the appointment of the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, on Mr. Sessionss decision to recuse himself from the Justice Departments Russia investigation a move Mr. Trump believes was the moment his administration effectively lost control over the inquiry. Accusing Mr. Sessions of disloyalty, Mr. Trump unleashed a string of insults on his attorney general.
Ashen and emotional, Mr. Sessions told the president he would quit and sent a resignation letter to the White House, according to four people who were told details of the meeting. Mr. Sessions would later tell associates that the demeaning way the president addressed him was the most humiliating experience in decades of public life.
The Oval Office meeting, details of which have not previously been reported, shows the intensity of Mr. Trumps emotions as the Russia investigation gained steam and how he appeared to immediately see Mr. Muellers appointment as a looming problem for his administration. It also illustrates the depth of antipathy Mr. Trump has had for Mr. Sessions one of his earliest campaign supporters and how the president interprets disloyalty within his circle of advisers.

(70,504 posts)Trump called Session an idiot and disloyal after Mueller was appointed and Sessions
walked out of the meeting and told Trump he was going to quit. He then sent Trump
a resignation letter but Bannon and Pence talked Trump out of taking it and then Trump
wrote a note on the letter and sent it back to Sessions.

He is still an idiot but in a different context.

(70,504 posts).... the idea that Sessions went to the Russian Embassy and met
w/Ambassador Kislyak w/out Trump's OK is laughable. And Sessions
had to recuse himself after the truth came out about his meetings
w/the Russians.

(10,495 posts)investigated for his perjury. People were going after him to such a degree that only by recusing himself, which he knew he was legally obligated to do under the circumstances, would take the heat off enough to save his job. Fortunately for the Evil Elf, it was enough of a distraction that it made it easier for the MSM move on to the next Trump scandal of the following day.
Since the media had moved on, no one was looking at Jeff Keebler which over a short time later normalized his continued presence. Mueller was appointed soon thereafter. I believe, (mostly), we will see a lot of high ranking and other movers and shakers go down before this is all over. I feel pretty confident that Mueller has been looking at everything Jeffy Boy said and did, and I am convinced there will be much to find. Where I lack some confidence that many may weasel out somehow with some political deal.
Hard to be patient even though I know how much work has to be done to investigate all of the corruption I expect that he is finding. I hope Trump doesn't screw the pooch and us along with it. The longer Trump is in the WH, the more danger we are in.

(15,220 posts)Trump is a bully and one of these days, hopefully soon via Robert Mueller, he's going to be put in his place.
But the people who have been so eager to be a part of the Trump Administration cannot make me believe that they would be surprised at this type of treatment. Sessions signed on for this, and Sessions got what he signed on for.
