Trump 'seriously considering' a pardon for Sheriff Joe Arpaio
Source: Fox News
President Trump may soon issue a pardon for Joe Arpaio, the colorful former Arizona sheriff who was found guilty two weeks ago of criminal contempt for defying a state judges order to stop traffic patrols targeting suspected undocumented immigrants. In his final years as Maricopa County sheriff, Arpaio had emerged as a leading opponent of illegal immigration.
I am seriously considering a pardon for Sheriff Arpaio, the president said Sunday, during a conversation with Fox News at his club in Bedminster, N.J. He has done a lot in the fight against illegal immigration. Hes a great American patriot and I hate to see what has happened to him.
Trump said the pardon could happen in the next few days, should he decide to do so.
Arpaio, 85, was convicted by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton of misdemeanor contempt of court for willfully disregarding an Arizona judges order in 2011 to stop the anti-immigrant traffic patrols. Arpaio had maintained the law enforcement patrols for 17 months thereafter.

(32,925 posts)If the cop is indicted, tried and found guilty/not guilty in the state of Virginia, how does Trump have any say?
This is not a federal court matter, and Cheeto's not a state judge or governor of Virginia.
Cheeto's "opinion" doesn't have any weight in this case, am I right?
(other than Twitter-power I mean)

(3,613 posts)That sounds more like an overnight and pay $100 thing. At 85, he should be able to work a hardship angle
Why pardon someone if they are out or almost out.

(15,684 posts)This asshole President actually thinks he can get away with making the statement he only just now did condemning White supremacists after this statement yesterday and loud silence he displayed re: re: the bigotry and racism fueled violence on Saturday.
We are not chumps asshole. Sorry, you don't deserve and will not get "Mr. President" from me.

(333 posts)The good thing about this is that he would get limited time and is no threat to anyone. What a pardon does is just dig Trump in deeper as the Grand Wizard in Chief.
