Sources: Tillerson thinking about early exit

Among those who viewed the President's public rebuke of Jeff Sessions as unprofessional, according to several sources, is Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the former Exxon-Mobil CEO.

The video at the link explains that Trump's bizarre NYT interview and the public humiliation of Sessions has undermined confidence across the boards in the White House and the cabinet and sources are telling CNN that Tillerson has told several of his friends that he is planning to leave during the holidays so that he can claim that "he gave it a year" but that the President's NYT interview added to a long list of things that Tillerson had problems with the white House with.
Seems like it is another example of how people close to the President have to leak to mainline news organizations to get the President's attention.
Wonder if this is going to be one of the leaks that the Communications Director is going to chase down and fire? lol

(17,865 posts)Trump has publicly abdicated military policy to his SecDef, a recent General. He has "run" a competing State department where he, his SecState and his Ambassador to the UN aren't even on the same script. He had to get an active duty officer as his NSA because no one else would do the job.
This is just foreign policy. Still the masses eat up his commissioning speech at the USS Gerald Ford and cry out that it is great to finally have a CinC who loves the country.

(8,945 posts)"When he asked me at the end of that conversation to be secretary of state, I was stunned," Tillerson said in the interview. Tillerson added that he then returned home to his wife who shook her finger in his face and said:
"I told you God's not through with you."

(53,061 posts)This administration is on the edge of going full defense on criminal charges. The NYT interview was ugly.
Maybe the leak is just a place marker so that if Trump is out he will have some credibility and be able to stay under Pence because he signalled that he wasn't going to stand for Trump's insanity.

Loyalty is only a one way street. You must be utterly loyal to him but his personal and professional loyalties? They can turn on a very worn-out dime, if they even exist at all.
Tillerson is a corporation man with no national loyalties, true, and cares nothing for the country. But, if this is true, the Cretin's ship has a Titanic sized gash.

...................There was a decided chill across the executive branch as last week came to a close after a tumultuous series of events that rattled worker bees and caught the attention of Cabinet secretaries.
..............For weeks, conversations with Tillerson friends outside of Washington have left the impression that he, despite his frustrations, was determined to stay on the job at least through the end of the year. That would allow time to continue efforts to reorganize the State Department and would mean he could claim to have put in a year as America's top diplomat.
But two sources who spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity over the weekend said they would not be surprised if there was a "Rexit" from Foggy Bottom sooner that that.
Both of these sources are familiar with Tillerson conversations with friends outside Washington. Both said there was a noticeable increase in the secretary's frustration and his doubts that the tug-of-war with the White House would subside anytime soon. They also acknowledged it could have been venting after a tough week, a suggestion several DC-based sources made when asked if they saw evidence Tillerson was looking for an exit strategy.

Mr. Trump is relying on his three casinos, including the recently opened Taj Mahal, billed as the world's largest, for the cash to keep his sprawling empire going. But restoring the strength of his once-lucrative gaming houses in a difficult market will require management skills that Mr. Trump has yet to demonstrate.
A Risk-Filled Business
In the seven months since a freak helicopter accident robbed him of his top casino executives, Mr. Trump has for the first time become directly involved in running these complex operations with thousands of employees, where management risk is as ever-present as chance at the gaming tables.
Since then, his casinos have been undermined by an exodus of senior managers, some of whom were dismissed and others who left complaining of Mr. Trump's overbearing and idiosyncratic style. Surviving staff members complain of low morale. Bills are not being paid on time, vendors say. And state regulators, growing more concerned, have stepped up a broad inquiry into all his holdings.

As it clicks in that 'he is what he is' and that they're not only not going to get what they hoped to get from signing on but could actually be harmed in some way by their being there, I strongly suspect that we'll see an increasing amount leaving and it becoming harder for Trump to find anyone who will work with him.

Knowing how Trump truly is (and in fact always has been) I'm amazed any well off (as in they don't 'need' the $$) professional with even half a brain would want to work with him. Add to his 'normal' NPD, micromanaging, scapegoating, crash & burn management style his increasing Alz/dementia symptoms and there's just too much risk of your reputation, not to mention freedom, becoming collateral damage as Trump (and company) implodes and he projects, deflects at, blames and lies about everyone rather than taking any responsibility himself.
