During remarks to the nations governors, President Donald Trump promised substantial increases in military and national security spending while simultaneously bemoaning trillions of dollars in military spending in the Middle East, which he said had gotten the United States less than nowhere.
Trump described his upcoming budget proposal as a public safety and national security budget" Monday morning. He claimed it would include a historic increase in defense spending and said that funding for domestic law enforcement would be substantially increased.
Still, in comments that were surprisingly blunt, Trump denounced the United States' 21st century militarism in the Middle East and said he would not fight wars that we dont fight to win.
We don't fight to win. We don't fight to win. So we either have to win or don't fight it at all, he said. But where we are, 17 years, almost 17 years of fighting in the Middle East, we're up I saw a chart the other day as of about a month ago, $6 trillion we've spent in the Middle East, $6 trillion. And I want to tell you that's just unacceptable.

(43,423 posts)deficits and inflation as far as the eye can see.
Unlike Reagan and Obama, Trump has no slack in the economy. Deficits
will bring on massive and rapid inflation. There is not the labor to do the
work for the deficits he plans to run. Deporting grunt labor is not helping
that equation. Is Trump going to do the work? Has he ever?

Signs of a tyrant - protecting his "children" from enemies real and imagined
And as for that $6 trillion - it went somewhere to someone to some corporation - Let us not be naïve Donald.

(3,208 posts)it won't do much for those paying it if it is spent on the military.
If we are going to go this gung ho on anything, it should be to protect the planet from climate change. We need to use our resources wisely and for something progressive like getting off fossil fuels.
The "last war" was fought to hang on to this short sighted life. We need to change. I don't see the people in the current administration doing anything to change.

Does it ever occur to him that *maybe* the solution isn't so black-and-white? (It's a rhetorical question.)
