Trump executive order prompts Google to recall staff
Source: BBC
The sudden and severe immigration restrictions imposed on passport holders from seven Muslim countries could seriously demonstrate the law of unintended consequences. The president wants to restrict some Muslims but the effect could be to damage America's most important and profitable sector: technology.
Google has recalled around 100 of its affected staff from overseas. Microsoft has warned its shareholders that curbs on immigration could have a material impact on its business.
The technology sector relies heavily on highly skilled and well-paid workers from overseas on H1-B visas. If there's a risk, however small, that that brainpower could be restricted in some way or scare off others who may feel unwelcome, the big tech companies may have to rethink where they place their key staff in future.

My take, anything that benefits him financially will happen, like with Russia and with Saudi Arabia being excluded. Anything that shows his racism, will happen. That's why he's lying so much about big cities, they are much more diverse and he hates that. He hates minorities as much as he disdains women, including his wife.

(5,743 posts)technology specialists, many of whom cannot find appropriate work because of outsourcing to cheap foreign labor. Our universities keep graduating people in these fields with little prospects and a pile of student debt. When was the last time you called a help line and was not rerouted halfway around the world? (Go Daddy is an exception.) Maybe some benefit will come of this.

(714 posts)Companies like Google set up hiring tests that no one can pass, then complain that "there aren't enough Americans who can do this" so they get their H1-B vista hires at half the salary. These companies are using immigrants to undercut the American tech sector for short term profit. No, I am not against legal immigration. But I am against the idea of a company firing an American and replacing him with an Indian at half pay and then Scrooge McDucking into the profits. Oh, and forcing that American to train his replacement.
