In a tumultuous election season, local TV stations won big

Source: STL Post Dispatch

By Nov. 8, local TV stations in the state had sold $124 million in political ads in 2016, according to estimates from Kantar Media's Campaign Media Analysis Group. That doesn't factor in ads run on local cable channels.

Since Missouri was never viewed as a competitive state for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, presidential spending in the state was minimal.

What led to the ad bonanza was a slate of statewide races in which the incumbent wasn't on the ballot, and a U.S. Senate race that proved to be far closer than most observers initially assumed it would be.

"If you are fortunate enough to have a competitive race in your state, it's a godsend," said Steve Lanzano, president of the the Television Bureau Of Advertising.

Enough money went to media at all levels that they will NEVER give opposition a fair hearing.

It is what keeps any print media alive, if they are in the same corporation with a related TV or a social media outlet.

Makes me sick.

I know support for print media in hopes of real investigative journalism is important, but I REFUSE to subscribe to the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel due to their repeated endorsements of Weasel Walker and their chikening out of endorsing either Feingold's or Idiot Johnson.

Since the "election", I have added the Guardian to my media subscriptions, in addition to the Times and the New Yorker.

Then, the next thread I read was this!

If Cyberwar is a newer war,

Let's redefine AIRSTRIKE ! -- No more watching any news on TV... SHUT IT OFF. --

Subscribe immediately to ONLY to print media.

Make it the biggest fight TV/Cable news ever encountered to survive.

We actually DO have THAT power that NO ONE can take away.

I believe after reading a good deal about this, that there are powerful people who want journalistic integrity back in our News.

We are a creative people, we have technology that we can use FOR this cause.

As just one example (of so many, I am sure), A reliable, non-profit, "fact checker company/organization?" would be beneficial in aiding us to oversee what we demand of our News. We could offer CBS one week of our loyal viewership (fact checked). If they failed, we would go to NBC for one week and so on. They would be Pop-Quizzed by fact checkers, on and off at any other time! Then if they fail, then they would have to agree to Headline the Fact they lied about and what the real truth was and HOW that happened for twice as long as they covered the initial/original MISinformation/Lie, or they go back to the Boycott list from the beginning, etc. Obviously it is an example, BUT if we do the same old shit, how are we going to get a different result?

Bottom line - We have the power to effect change whether they like it or not. This is OUR country. Seriously, when is enough, enough. When the 99% believe that mayonnaise was made to go on top of popcorn?

We have seen calls to action, all for crucial cause, and many were successful.

I believe this IS a crucial cause.

Every other amazing, exhausting and costly action, protest, all the way to the bills being fought on the House floor... Will NOT be covered Honestly, if we don't WIN this battle.

4. I remember the good old days they were required to keep their politics to themselves.

Things seemed very professionally managed "back then." There was some dignity in their news broadcasts. Anchors didn't gibber to each other or gape at each other while the other read the news. Downright respectable. Didn't try to con the viewers. Doesn't even seem possible now.

They also acted as if they were speaking to normal, functional adults, not a bunch of halfwits, Republicans, and very slow children.

Only the sports broadcasters made a-holes of themselves (and some weathermen).

just get locals

There is no doubt in my mind that the TV networks, both local and national could not be more pleased with what happened
