Secret Ledger in Ukraine Lists Cash for Donald Trump’s Campaign Chief

Source: New York Times

Handwritten ledgers show $12.7 million in undisclosed cash payments designated for Mr. Manafort from Mr. Yanukovych’s pro-Russian political party from 2007 to 2012, according to Ukraine’s newly formed National Anti-Corruption Bureau. Investigators assert that the disbursements were part of an illegal off-the-books system whose recipients also included election officials.

In addition, criminal prosecutors are investigating a group of offshore shell companies that helped members of Mr. Yanukovych’s inner circle finance their lavish lifestyles, including a palatial presidential residence with a private zoo, golf course and tennis court. Among the hundreds of murky transactions these companies engaged in was an $18 million deal to sell Ukrainian cable television assets to a partnership put together by Mr. Manafort and a Russian oligarch, Oleg Deripaska, a close ally of President Vladimir V. Putin.

From a post on Reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/4xr27i/secret_ledger_in_ukraine_lists_cash_for_donald/d6hri2j

This is very important: Manafort is not a registered foreign agent. This means he almost certainly broke the law.

Now, consider this: you have an unregistered foreign agent, paid millions by Russia and/or Russian allies, with direct access to classified intelligence via Trump, while at the same time likely facing investigations by the FBI, CIA, and Ukranian authorities.

Also, and not the least of Manaforts problems, did he declare this income and pay taxes on it?
Counting down to Manafort's flight to Russia and reappearance as a guest star on Snow-bot....

If he was paid in 2012 and is in the US now for somebody out of power, he's not a foreign agent.

It's all whether he's acting under the direction and for somebody overseas, not whether he acted under the direction of somebody overseas while he was overseas. Even if he produced reports in Ukraine for Yanuk that's probably not enough.

45. Trump Company Kept Two Sets Of Financial Numbers, Testimony Shows
Sun Aug 14, 2016, 11:42 PM
Aug 2016
One of Donald Trump’s companies prepared financial estimates for its lenders and investors that were “rosier” than the projections it used internally, a financial analyst for the company said in a deposition obtained by BuzzFeed News.

The testimony concerns Trump’s $200 million project to transform the Old Post Office building — a taxpayer-owned landmark just five blocks from White House — into a luxury hotel. The company developing the hotel is owned by Trump and three of his children, Ivanka, Donald Jr., and Eric.

Lenders were told the hotel could earn millions of dollars more than the more conservative, internal estimates, the financial analyst, Raymond Flores, testified. He said those internal projections “generally tend to err on the side of being pretty conservative.”

Later he said, “And then there are other projections where, you know, we’re pitching to a lender or an equity source, where it’s rosier.” With these projections, he said, “we’re pushing the boundaries of — we’re pushing ranges of reasonability at those — at those projections to show, you know, what the hotel could be.”

Ukrainian officials leak information to the American press that makes a candidate perceived to be pro-Russian and presumably anti-Ukrainian (what with the Crimean "might recognize" comment) seem less electable.

In other words, "Ukraine's trying to affect the outcome of the US elections" in a way that's more clearly connected with the Ukr government than the Russian hackers are.
