Ex-Mich. GOP Gov. Milliken endorses Clinton over Trump
Source: Detroit News
Former Michigan Gov. William Milliken, a Republican who in recent years has increasingly backed Democrats, is endorsing Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for president.
Milliken said in a statement he is saddened and dismayed the Republican party has nominated businessman Donald Trump, who has repeatedly demonstrated that he does not embrace the nations abiding commitments to tolerance, civility, and equality.
Because I feel so strongly about our nations future, I will be joining the growing list of former and present government officials in casting my vote for Hillary Clinton for President in 2016, the 94-year-old said. To me, the choice is clear. The answers to our current challenges lie in unity, and not division.
Millkens endorsement comes as Clinton and Trump prepare to contrast their economic agendas this week in Detroit. Trump will speak Monday at a Detroit Economic Club luncheon. Clinton is expected to deliver a jobs speech on Thursday in Detroit, but the time and location have not yet been announced.

(15,580 posts)I'll preface this by saying I didn't live in Michigan when he was Governor, but I read his biography and it seems like he was a dedicated environmentalist and a decent human being. This was all prior to the downward spiral that Michigan began taking after they elected Engler.
Michigan is now vying for a spot somewhere at the bottom near Mississippi!

Re Michigan v Mississippi ... I think we have far outdone Mississippi in rightwing idiocy and evil (no small feat)

The Republican Party should be ashamed of itself today because of how it has strayed away from his excellent example.
