Reports: Two dead, one hospitalized after shooting in Katy

Will Axford, Houston Chronicle

Updated 6:53 pm, Friday, June 24, 2016

A mother fatally shot one of her daughters and critically wounded another before she was shot and killed by an officer in Katy, according to media reports.

At 5:28 p.m., the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office reported an active shooter in Katy via Twitter.

Deputies are responding to the scene on the 6000 block of Remson Hollow to investigate.

KTRK reports, a Fulshear police officer arrived after deputies got the call about the shooting in the middle of the street. By the time the officer arrived, one daughter was already dead and the mother was about to shoot the second daughter again, before the officer opened fire.

The murderer and victims were white, so no name no pictures.

If the republicans and NRA didn't pass a law preventing the government from collecting data on gun deaths, I think we would see how many more of these deaths, accidental shootings, and suicides there are than "good guys with guns" shooting criminals.

Here in KC.

Every day they find someone else shot and laying on the street or in an alley or in a yard.

Last week a four year old got caught in the crossfire of two cars engaged in a running gunfight. His poor father turned onto a street and was right in the middle of a gun fight. The little boy died.

And people in the Missouri legislature are pushing for more lax gun laws. It's insane.

Texas mother fatally shoots 2 daughters; police kill her

Updated 3:37 pm, Saturday, June 25, 2016

FULSHEAR, Texas (AP) — Police say a Houston-area woman fatally shot her two daughters before officers shot and killed her.

The incident happened about 5 p.m. Friday in front of a home just outside the Houston suburb of Fulshear. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office identified the mother as 42-year-old Christy Sheats and her daughters as 22-year-old Taylor Sheats and 17-year-old Madison Sheats.

Sheriff Troy Nehls says the shooting apparently climaxed a family argument, but the reason for the argument remains unclear.

Nehls says the two younger women had already been shot when a Fulshear police officer arrived and saw the mother with a gun in her hand, apparently preparing to shoot one of her daughters again. The officer shot and killed the woman.

I also find the mom's selfies pretty creepy. The self-inflicted blonde hair, the perfect makeup, the LASHES, the cleavage. Very Stepford Wifey. They say she was only 42, but with all that STUFF she looks older. Pretty, but certainly not younger and definitely someone not comfortable in her own skin.

With a divorce and her youngest being 17, I'm guessing she was looking at a major lifestyle change. No more big house in the burbs. No more perfect life.

They say the cops had been called to the house many times before. I wonder if we'll ever find out what really happened.

The Texas Mother Who Shot Daughters Had a Mental Illness History, Reports Say

Casey Quackenbush @caseyquack
4:00 AM ET

Her social media posts also indicate that she opposed gun controls

The Texas mother who was killed by police after fatally shooting her two daughters on Friday reportedly had a history of mental illness and actively supported gun rights on Facebook.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff spokeswoman Caitilin Espinosa told People that Christy Sheats’ “mental crisis” had brought the police to her home “for previous altercations.” Further details were not provided.

After receiving 911 reports of shots being fired over an alleged family dispute, police arrived at the Sheats’ home shortly after 5 p.m. to find Taylor Sheats, 22, and Madison Sheats, 17, lying on the street. The mother was shot dead after she refused to drop her weapon. One daughter died at the scene, and the other after arriving at the hospital.

While Sheats’ motive is still under investigation, People reports that her Facebook posts indicate that she was an active gun rights supporter. In January, People says, Sheats uploaded a meme ridiculing Obama’s views on gun control. In March, she reportedly posted an anti-gun control video with the message, “It would be horribly tragic if my ability to protect myself or my family were to be taken away, but that’s exactly what Democrats are determined to do by banning semi-automatic handguns.”

Texas mom killed by police after she shot two daughters to death, police say

By Katie Mettler

June 27 at 4:35 AM

When police pulled up to the manicured Houston subdivision Friday evening, after a flood of 911 calls directing them there, they found two young women lying in the street, their bodies bleeding from bullet wounds.

Nearby stood their mother, 42-year-old Christy Sheats. In her hand she held a gun.

Authorities demanded she drop her weapon, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, but she refused. An officer with the Fulshear Police Department opened fire and shot the mother dead.

Sheats’ husband and the girls’ father, Jason Sheats, watched the carnage unfold from afar. Friday was his birthday, neighbors told ABC affiliate KTRK-TV. The couple had recently reunited after a marital separation, they said. The father was uninjured, police told reporters, but he was so distraught he was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

‘Don’t do this’: Dad begs wife who fatally shot daughters

By Wilson Dizard
June 27, 2016 | 4:29am

The husband of Texas killer mom Christy Sheats begged her in vain not to shoot their two daughters, a neighbor who witnessed the carnage said Sunday.

“Don’t do this, they’re our kids!” the panicked father, Jason Sheats, screamed to his wife, 42, who shot Taylor, 22, and Madison, 17, before being gunned down herself by cops.

The chilling witness account surfaced two days after the Friday massacre outside the family’s home in suburban Houston.

Katy shooting that left three dead started with 'family meeting'

By Samantha Ketterer and James Pinkerton

Updated 8:09 pm, Monday, June 27, 2016

The Fort Bend County sheriff's office responded to more than a dozen calls for help - including three attempted suicides - in four years at the troubled Katy home where a family meeting Friday erupted into violence that ended with a mother and two daughters fatally wounded in the street.

But Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls said he didn't know if the mental health calls came from Christy Byrd Sheats, 42, a vocal Second Amendment proponent who shot her two daughters before being gunned down by police.

"It just seems like an argument - a domestic disturbance in a family, that turns into a shooting where a mother went out and shot her two daughters - somebody would say she's got mental health issues because who in her right mind would do that," he said.

The girls' father, Jason Sheats, 45, was also targeted in the shooting but escaped unharmed down the cul-de-sac. He is cooperating fully with investigators, Nehls said.
