Majority of Union Members Favor Obama; a Third Back Romney

Source: Gallup

PRINCETON, NJ -- A majority of union members say they would vote for Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential race, although their support is by no means monolithic. While 57% of union workers who are registered to vote would support Obama, 35% would vote for Mitt Romney. Workers who are not union members tilt toward Romney over Obama, 48% to 44%.

2012 Presidential Vote Preferences Among Union Members, April-June 2012

Roughly 12% of workers interviewed April 11-June 5 in Gallup's Daily tracking who are registered voters say they are union members.

The tilt toward support for Obama among union members is not surprising. Not only have unions been strong and vocal supporters of Democratic presidential candidates historically, but previous Gallup analyses have shown that union members are significantly more likely than nonunion members to be Democrats; this is particularly true for state government employees.

Allow them to live without ANY of the benefits provided by unions, past and/or present, from now until election day. See if they feel the same then. It's really sad when people vote out of hatred, jealousy or prejudice; but when they vote against their own best interest for it, it defies description. No five day work week. No overtime. No benefits. Leave them to the whims of their masters.

but the only reason why I think someone would intentionally vote against thier own livelihood is religion.

They learned it at church. Homophobia, anti women, racism, voting against your best interst (not legitimate sacrifice for the good) can all be linked back to church. Are some church goers good folks. Yes, but it is my moral responsibility to point out, by giving to a church you are wasting your money, by attending your brainwashing yourself.

I used to go to church, but I do not any more.

The reply that got hidden is the reason why religion is such a danger to our society.

Union members are not immune to standard GOP fear mongering.."Dems are coming for your guns!" Also, as in the rest of society racism exists in the Union ranks.

That any union member would support Romney over Obama can only be explained as racism. Why would any working union member want to elect a president that detests all unions and everything they stand for? It is like backing some one who has just spit in your face. The only possible argument is that there are some union members who cannot tolerate having a black president. Nothing else computes.

i mean,
when it comes to conservatives, they always vote against their OWN special interests in favor of the richs..
id imagine theyd feel the same way about unions, even if they were in one..
the same way they hate social security, but get a check every month
