(CNN)Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton have agreed to meet for a Democratic debate on CNN and NY1 on April 14, five days before a crucial primary election in New York state.
The debate will take place in Brooklyn and will be moderated by CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer, who led two GOP debates earlier this election season.
CNN chief political correspondent Dana Bash and NY1 political anchor Errol Louis will join in the questioning of the candidates.
NY1 is the main 24-hour cable news channel in New York City. Both CNN and NY1 will carry the debate live from 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern.

Looks like April 14 is a go, it will be at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

(893 posts)She should have just kept calling the debate requests "a stunt" and asked Bernie to change his "tone."
This debate will be the undeniable confirmation her presidential run is in trouble, and that Bernie Sanders can very well take her down.

(21,210 posts)At the end of January Sanders proposed a debate in NY before their primary, stating Brooklyn would be a good choice, happy to see this finally come together after two months!
Guess de Blasio came through with the offer to gain another permit on 4/13 and to help Clinton keep her fundraising schedule.
"MILWAUKEE U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday accepted an invitation from CNN to debate Hillary Clinton in Brooklyn on April 14 before the New York Democratic Party primary election.
Sen. Sanders has accepted another invitation to debate Hillary Clinton in New York. We are glad that she finally has agreed, said Michael Briggs, Sanders spokesman. Sanders all along has pressed for a debate on television in prime time so the greatest number of New Yorkers and Americans may listen to the candidates and decide for themselves who has the best ideas about how to reform our rigged economy and the corrupt campaign finance system. Its great for the people of New York that there will be a debate in Brooklyn, something that the Clinton campaign has long opposed.
Fortunately, we were able to move a major New York City rally scheduled for April 14 to the night before. We hope the debate will be worth the inconvenience for thousands of New Yorkers who were planning to attend our rally on Thursday but will have to change their schedules to accommodate Secretary Clintons jam-packed, high-dollar, coast-to-coast schedule of fundraisers all over the country.
CNN invited Sanders and Clinton to the debate ahead of New Yorks April 19 Democratic Party primary election.
Sanders previously accepted NBCs invitation to a prime-time debate next Sunday but that date conflicted with Clintons heavy schedule of high-dollar fundraisers, including one on that date in Virginia.
Both the Sanders and Clinton campaigns agreed last January to hold an additional debate in April and another in May.
Sanders was in Wisconsin on Monday appearing at rallies in Milwaukee, Green Bay and Janesville ahead of Tuesdays primary."

In a statement, the Clinton campaigns Fallon criticized Sanders refusal. Both offers for the night of April 14 and the morning of April 15 still remain. The Sanders campaign needs to stop using the New York primary as a playground for political games and negative attacks against Hillary Clinton, Fallon said.

I am glad he finally listened to Hillary!

(67,782 posts)...Clinton.
Tonight was no good because of the NCAA tournament and "Syracuse was a participant" - even though Syracuse was eliminated on Saturday!
April 14 was no good because they had a big rally planned, even though there have been no details released or actual time, an no formal announcement yet.
I presume April 15 was no good because Jane is still working on their income tax returns (did you hear that was his excuse for not releasing them yet?)
They forgot that they originally proposed April 14 as the date for the New York debate (their press release is still on their website!!!!). I guess once they realized it was their idea in the first place they had to accept April 14 as the date.
He even made a smarmy comment yesterday about why Clinton had a problem with Brooklyn, only to be reminded that Clinton's Campaign Headquarters are located in Brooklyn!
Their campaign is looking more and more like Bubba Gump Shrimp every day!

(21,210 posts)and the permit for 4/14 was mentioned in the article you linked.
Today de Blasio offered help to secure another permit. Clinton was too busy with fundraisers on the days proposed by the Sanders campaign, which are obviously harder to reschedule!
"Let's make @NY1 4/14 BKLYN debate happen. @BernieSanders: I'll help you secure any permit you need to ensure your NYC rally can happen too."

So de Blasio stepped in with an offer to help secure 'any permit you need' to the Sanders campaign, would not want to inconvenience anyone who planed to attend one of Hillary's fundraisers, they might be busy on another date!
Sanders proposed a debate in NYC two months ago, glad to see that Clinton has finally acquiesced to a debate in Brooklyn before the NY primary.

"The Sanders campaign has repeatedly pushed for a debate in Brooklyn, where the Vermont Senator was born and raised, an area they see as favorable ground for him, even though Clintons campaign is based there. The New York City borough has a large population of liberal Democrats and young voters, many of them likely to favor Sanders, and a debate would be a symbolic homecoming for him.
Clinton, meanwhile, has long resisted the idea of debating in New York. In March, Clinton aides were in favor of holding a debate in Pennsylvania, according to several sources familiar with the debate negotiations.
.....Then, in the last 10 days, Clinton aides expressed willingness to hold a New York debate but have continued to prefer a debate upstate, instead of Brooklyn. However, the Clinton campaign was preparing behind the scenes for a potential Brooklyn debate, eyeing Medgar Evers College in Brooklyns Crown Heights neighborhood as a possibility.
Meanwhile, Sanders event schedule was filling up, with Sanders scheduling high-profile rallies at major locations throughout the city, including in downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan, and some outdoors. Sanders received a difficult-to-obtain permit for a high-profile rally in a coveted Manhattan space on the evening of April 14 which has yet to be publicly announced.
The Clinton campaign pushed for an April 4 date at Hofstra University sponsored by the local station NY 1, but Sanders aides mocked that proposal, saying it was the same date as an NCAA tournament game. The idea that they want a debate in New York on a night of the NCAA finalswith Syracuse in the tournament no lessis ludicrous, said Briggs in a statement......"

"Back when Hillary was worried about being trounced in NH, she suddenly decided that maybe more debates would be a good idea after all. She insisted on one in NH, and in exchange, Bernie got a commitment for three more debates besides that one. (Discussed at http://www.democraticunderground.com/12511133521 )
The candidates quickly agreed to another debate in Flint MI, and one in CA, but Bernie wanted the fourth to be in Brooklyn. Hillary would not agree to that (see quotes in links below), and instead, talk was that it would likely be in Pennsylvania. Why was Brooklyn off limits as far as Hillary was concerned? ............"

He suggested the April 14th date way back, but as soon as Hillary agreed with him... sorry, no deal, previous engagement! Only after Blaz intervened and left Bernie with no excuses, did he finally relent.
And I am being disingenuous?

When exactly did she accept that date?
The first mention I saw was After the Sanders campaign published a letter on March 27 trying to get the Clinton campaign to lock in a date for the April debate.
"He suggested the April 14th date way back, but as soon as Hillary agreed with him... sorry, no deal, previous engagement!"
Did the Clinton campaign expect the Sanders campaign to hold that date open for months while trying to schedule other events?

Sanders Campaign Statement on Debates

DES MOINES, Iowa Bernie Sanders campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, issued the following statement Saturday on negotiations over additional debates:
After refusing for months to participate in more debates, Secretary Clinton requested that the Democratic National Committee rules be changed and that a new debate take place in New Hampshire next week. We agreed pending an agreement on three future debates in March, April and May. Unfortunately, the Clinton campaign has not accepted debates we proposed on March 3 in Michigan and April 14 in New York. They apparently agreed to May 24 in California. The Clinton campaign, after not accepting Michigan, now says they want it. We are pleased to do it on March 3 before the Michigan primary provided the Clinton campaign will agree to Brooklyn, New York, on April 14. Why wont they debate in Brooklyn? Whats the matter with Brooklyn?

Sanders Challenges Clinton to Debate in New York
March 27, 2016
"BURLINGTON, Vt. U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Sunday challenged Hillary Clinton to debate him in New York before the states April 19 primary election.
I would hope very much that as we go into New York state, Secretary Clintons home state, that we will have a debate New York City or Upstate, wherever on the important issues facing New York and, in fact, the country, Sanders told Chuck Todd in an interview on NBCs Meet the Press.
Fresh off sweeping victories on Saturday in Washington, Alaska and Hawaii, Sanders was looking ahead to upcoming primaries in Wisconsin and New York.
He told The Associated Press it was really absurd that Clinton so far has refused to agree to a debate with him in her home state.
Jeff Weaver, Sanders campaign manager, wrote a letter on Sunday to Clintons campaign manager, Robby Mook, underscoring the senators call for a New York debate.
New York will play a critical role in determining the Democratic nominee. However, your campaign has consistently chosen to deny the people of New York the opportunity to see Senator Sanders and Secretary Clinton debate in the Empire State, Weaver wrote to Mook............"

You all do know that the Battle of Brooklyn was the first battle of the Revolutionary War, don't you?
Or don't they teach American History any more?

(67,782 posts)....there were dozens of battles prior to the Battle of Brooklyn (commonly called the Battle of Long Island) That one was fought in August 1776. It wasn't the first, but it was the largest.
The first battle(s) of the war were the Battles of Lexington and Concord more than a year before the Battle of Brooklyn.
