Expert: Video shows slain boy's hands in pockets when shot

Updated 9:40 pm, Saturday, December 5, 2015

CLEVELAND (AP) — A 12-year-old boy killed by Cleveland police last year had his hands in his pockets when he was shot and wasn't reaching for the pellet gun he was carrying, according to an expert hired by the boy's family to review a frame-by-frame video of the deadly encounter.

Tamir Rice did not have enough time to remove his hands from his pockets before being shot and his hands were not visible to the officer, according to the report released late Friday night by attorneys for Tamir's family.

The new report and two others from experts already used by the family are the latest analysis of evidence to be released as a grand jury considers whether to bring charges against the officers in Tamir's death.

The boy was shot after authorities received a report of a man pointing and waving a gun outside a recreation center in November 2014. The rookie officer who fired at Tamir, Timothy Loehmann, told investigators he repeatedly ordered the boy to "show me your hands" then saw him pulling a weapon from his waistband before opening fire.

from opening his car door until shooting the kid? And cop car windows rolled up so that Tamir couldn't possibly hear any commands?

If they'd stopped a sufficient distance away and walked up yelling commands like they're supposed to, this may not have happened.

More like a hit job you see terrorists doing in Iraq. Pure cowboy behavior.

No matter how much condemnation cops receive for killing innocent people, they keep doing it.

That killer cop should never have been on a police force, having already been dismissed from a previous police department.

What I don't get is why the Cleveland authorities are defending the murderer?

Just admit he screwed up and indict him instead of putting their careers on the line for a killer cop.

allure of an occupation where you get to carry a loaded gun and push people around which attracts the crazies? Or is this sort of by design because it makes people fear and "respect" the institution?

For awhile, I've heard they were actively recruiting from militias so look what happened. A lot of crazy racists are now police and are very dangerous. There are some good cops, one of my daughter's best friends' husband is a really good guy. He would never kill an innocent person, especially a child. However, that's just one. So, I still don't trust cops and would hesitate to call 911 if someone broke into my house. You never know who will show up and will they kill me or my husband in error?

His partner is just as bad for covering for him.
The shooter should be charged With murder and the partner as an assessory.

Only a fool would rush his cop car right up on the child like that: a murderous, racist fool.

Yet some on this board still revere the police. Interestingly enough, it's the gun supporters, but guess that's no surprise.

the 911 operator who failed to relay all the information to police.

Tamir Rice, a 12 year-old boy killed by police after officers mistook a toy gun he was carrying for a real weapon, might still be alive today if a 911 dispatcher hadn’t left out a key detail when she sent police to Rice’s location — the 911 caller who contacted the police about Rice said that Rice’s gun was “probably fake.”

On the day that officers drove up to Rice, shot him dead, and refused to administer medical assistance, an unidentified caller alerted a dispatcher about a kid wielding a gun. However, the caller also noted that the weapon could have been a toy. “It’s probably a fake. But you know what? It’s scaring the shit out of me,” the person said.
