Police have released new surveillance footage that they say shows a teen pulling a gun from his waistband moments before he was shot by officers after allegedly opening fire on them.
According to St. Louis County Police, Tyrone Harris, 18, began firing at an unmarked car carrying detectives after shots were fired Sunday night near protests marking the anniversary of the death of Michael Brown.
According to police in a statement released today, the brief footage, from an insurance company, shows Harris "grab a handgun out of his waistband once shots are fired during the protest in the W. Florissant corridor seconds prior to the officer involved shooting," referring to the street on which the protests were located.
Earlier, police said Harris "immediately turned and began firing" at the police car, which they say had its lights on, hitting the vehicle several times.

(15,882 posts)Didn't chase down any of the racists with semi-auto rifles running around whether they were cops or not, who also said they had guns out for that reason.
No evidence he shot anything.

(15,031 posts)This may or may not prove the truth, but on the face of it -- if accurate -- I perceive an incredible difference between arseholes carrying guns around trying to intimidate protestors and people actually firing guns, whether or not they are a lousy shot.

(15,882 posts)I have not seen any independent evidence of what has become a standard police line.
They said they heard gunshots. There is video of him pulling a gun AFTER the shots, and then their testimony that they began to chase him down in an unmarked vehicle.
If he pulled a gun to defend himself against what any white person would have perceived as a credible threat,
- I mean, there doesn't appear to even have to be gunshots for these white ass holes to come out of the woodwork with the things they fondle on bridles around their necks, eh? -
and then armed deputies came at him out of that scene with an unmarked vehicle...it is entirely possible they provoked a murder.

(9,951 posts)He shot at a police car with it's lights on, in what world of yours is that defending yourself?
You say no evidence, the video says different.
jtuck004
(15,882 posts)so perhaps there is some fucking magic time between when he was shown on video - not shooting - which conflicts with their original statement that said he was shooting, and when a car full of unidentified men ran him down and shot him with the intent to kill him.
There may be a problem with perception if people don't want to accept the official line again.

(9,951 posts)The article doesn't say he started the initial shooting, it says that after the first shots were fired, he pulled a gun out of his waistband, which the video CLEARLY shows, then he runs across the street out of the view of the camera, that's when he probably started shooting at a cop car with it's lights on.
And him carrying a gun was illegal in the first place, he's too young at 18 to legally own or carry a handgun.

(9,951 posts)That's crap, I've roundly criticized the cops when they've been wrong, but this video is pretty damning to the teen and seems to back up the cops story.

(9,951 posts)All police cars, whether marked or unmarked, have red and blue lights and very often, white strobe lights.

(1,668 posts)But with police reports, it's best to ask for clarification.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)I'm assuming they mean the reds and blues were on responding to the report of shots fired.

(528 posts)Why is he in a big group of people that start running away from something he turns around and pulls out the gun after everyone starts running.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)They started running because of the initial gunfire, that's when he pulled his gun out of his waistband and started shooting at the cops.

(10,056 posts)They contradict themselves in the same statement.
I don't believe a word the cops say.
"...Tyrone Harris, 18, began firing at an unmarked car carrying detectives after shots were fired Sunday night near protests..."
Then this:
"According to police in a statement released today, the brief footage, from an insurance company, shows Harris "grab a handgun out of his waistband once shots are fired during the protest..."
So shots were fired at a police car, supposedly, then Harris tucks a hot loaded gun back into his pants only to then pull it out again just in time to be shot and killed by the fucking gang in blue?
Bullshit.
Nothing to add.
Has anyone here tried to tuck a hot revolver that has been fired several times into their waistband?
If not, boy are YOU in for a surprise.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)The article states that he only pulled his gun and started shooting at the cops after the initial gunfire, they're not saying he did the initial shooting.

I'm shocked that someone hasn't yet claimed the police doctored the video to cover up a murder by cops.

After that, see if you can come up with an intelligent comment to which I will respond in kind.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)after the initial gunfire, so I'm thinking that you are saying that the cops said that he did the initial shooting, tucked the gun back into his waistband, then pulled it again and started shooting at the cops.
No where in the article does it say the cops believe he did the initial shooting.
And as far as your bullshit snark, get lost.
7962
(11,841 posts)He grabbed a gun out of his waistband AFTER SHOTS WERE FIRED. It doesnt say HE fired the first shots and it doesnt say the shots were fired at the cops, only that "shots were fired". THEN he approached the cops and started HIS firing. The video shows him pull the un AFTER initial shots were fired somewhere nearby.
Is that a little clearer to grasp?
I would like to see a full video,
and witness statements.
How many times has the Official Story had to be changed after a couple of days?
I WILL tell you this.
If you fire a handgun, and then stick it in your pants,
you are in for a BIG surprise.
Why don't you try it?
7962
(11,841 posts)he didnt fire the first shots. The gun wasnt hot when it was in his pants.
bvar22
(39,909 posts)I asked YOU to do it as a little experiment. Let me know what happens. OK?
I was explicit in that I will wait a few days for an "amended" police report and affidavits from witnesses.
Since when has DU begun believing the 1st Cover Story released by our the Police or our government?

(7,670 posts)From what I can tell, Harris didn't pull out his gun until shots were heard, these were NOT the shots that were fired at the police car when he was shot.
So both statements don't contradict each other.
