Centennial, Colorado (CNN)A jury will announce its verdict Friday on whether James Holmes should be executed or spend life in prison for committing mass murder in a Colorado movie theater that became one of the worst shootings in U.S. history.

The jury reached a sentencing verdict after deliberating almost seven hours since late Thursday, and the court will announce the jury's sentence at 7 p.m. ET.

Holmes killed 12 people and wounded 70 more in a movie theater in the Denver suburb of Aurora in July 2012. He was convicted last month of 24 counts of first-degree murder -- two for each of the victims slain in the shooting. The convictions initiated proceedings on whether he should receive the death penalty.

In Friday's deliberations, the jury asked the court if it could view a 45-minute video of the crime scene taken by a police investigator.

to try that idiot and to give him a pass for murder of a young AA kid. This useless lump of human flesh kills many people and it takes 3 years to find him guilty? This is american justice and privilege personified.

Especially since Holmes was willing to plead guilty if they would take the DP off the table. This all could have been settled over 2 years ago. Unfortunately, district attorneys are elected, so they can't appear to be soft on crime, even if it would have saved the state millions in litigation fees

but I can't really fault the DA for seeking it here. It's his job to prosecute to the full extend of the law. It's the jury's job to decide life or death.
