House revives Obama’s trade agenda with passage of fast track bill

Source: Washington Post

The House voted to resurrect the centerpiece of President Obama’s trade agenda Thursday, six days after his fellow Democrats dealt him a dramatic setback after a monthslong lobbying effort.

Thursday’s 218-208 vote to grant Obama “fast track” authority to negotiate trade deals — including the controversial 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership — is a win for the president, but it is not yet a victory.

It is the first in a complicated series of moves to get around a blockade set up by liberal House Democrats against the president’s trade agenda. The original plan was complicated enough — four separate bills, two of them packaged in one piece for the Senate, but then split apart for House consideration into four votes.

The fact that the process is complicated, now international negotiations can continue, the details of the trade deal will be opened up to the public, will all now be reported as if it already was.

damn, damn, damn. I'm usually proud of Jared Polis, but today I'm reminded he's a very wealthy businessman. Certainly part of the top 10%, if not the 1%.
When push comes to shove, the votes almost always are against the 99%

I will call him today and remind him the 99% are still here and we're not getting any better.

Normally I'd be thinking I can't wait until we can turf out a sell-out like this in the White House as soon as possible. This kind of stubbornness on his part sure would have come in handy when he was pledging that the ACA would not have his signature without a public option. Its obvious he has willfully surrounded himself with corporate lobbyists as advisers, and has convinced himself that the promises of a cushy executive position and corporate speaking tours is his gold ticket once he leaves office. I'm sure he's convinced himself that it is quite nobly all for his family's financial security.

but...who is next on the docket? Hillary?...Jeb? How will anything change?

The only hope is if Bernie can transcend and catch fire despite the MSMs best efforts.

and most people still love him for it.

ignorance=bliss

being a former libertarian turned democratic liberal, i have drastically changed my opinions about almost everything, but one thing has not changed: my complete distrust and resentment for obama (i wont even capitalize his name).

during the '08 elections i already knew that obama was a corporate lackey, just look at his record and his friends (rahm emanual, cass sunstein). i was shocked and appalled when the majority of voters were all running like lemmings toward obama, draw in by his personality cult and all of those wonderful, wonderful speeches promising multitudes of social renewal and change ( smart people realized that these promises were hollow lies) none of which has not been realized.

nothing is new, this is just good-old-fasioned bait-&-switch

it is obama's 6th year, and still he has done nothing to address climate change, which is the greatest challenge facing humanity now. when obama began presiding, the scientists said that there was still time to prevent the worst of global warming, 6 years later with nothing to show for them, scientists are now pretty sure we are screwed. now, with the TPP it has been decided by big money that nothing WILL be done , their greed and lust for more will -against the popular will- destroy this beautiful planet that we live on and kill thousands if not millions and make the race to the bottom as horrible as possible.

i do and always will support and spread liberal/democratic values and beliefs. but never will i trust or put my support behind that lying sneaky sneaky sneaky two- faced sociopath obama

only a sociopath can look upon millions of people and lie to their faces about something as bad as the TPP
