Israel killed more Palestinian civilians in 2014 than in any other year since the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip began in 1967, a UN report has said.

Israel’s activities in the Gaza Strip, West Bank and East Jerusalem resulted in the deaths of 2,314 Palestinians and 17,125 injuries, compared with 39 deaths and 3,964 injuries in 2013, according to the annual report (pdf) by the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The conflict in Gaza in July and August was largely responsible for the dramatic increase in fatalities. It claimed the lives of 2,220 Gazans, of whom 1,492 were civilians, 605 militants and 123 unverified.

More than 11,000 people were injured and about 500,000 Palestinians were internally displaced at the height of the conflict. About 100,000 remain so.
There was also a sharp rise in fatalities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, where 58 Palestinians were killed and 6,028 injured – the highest number of fatalities in incidents involving Israeli forces since 2007 and the highest number of injuries since 2005

12. Here's my solution

The refugees have been there too long. Three generations is too long to sit in a refugee camp without hope. These people need to be taken in by other countries and given a new chance at a life.

After World War II, a huge swath of eastern Germany was given to Poland or the Soviet Union. Millions and millions of civilians were pushed from their homes and removed west. The German cities were simply renamed and resettled with Poles or Russians.
The capital of East Prussia Konigsberg became Kaliningrad. Posen became Poznan. Breslau became Wroclaw. Stettin became Szczecin. Kolberg became Kolobrzeg.

So where are all those millions of German refugees today?

Are they sitting in refugee camps across the Oder River throwing bottles at Polish cops?

No, they long ago dusted themselves up from the ruins of war, restarted their lives somewhere else and those refugees can tell their horrible stories to their prosperous kids and grandkids. So why haven't the Palestinian refugees been resettled? Are brown refugees less worthy than white refugees?

Get these people resettled somewhere so they can start their lives. They are just political pawns, and just as helpless as pawns.

PS - to see how ridiculous this situation from World War II is, take a look at a map of Russia in 2015. Start at Moscow and then go west. You'll go through Smolensk and then you leave Russia and go hundreds of miles through Belorussia and pass through its capital Minsk. Then you hit the Baltic States, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. You hit the Baltic Sea in Lithuania and then head west along the coast. You reach the city of Memel which is now called Klaipeda and then wait a minute. Now you're back in Russia? What is this enclave? It's the northern half of East Prussia including its capital city now part of Russia, but separated from any other Russian lands by hundreds of miles. What happened to all the Germans? They're gone. Does Russia just get to keep this land that they really have no claim to at all other than conquest? Well, yeah. They just get to keep it as weird as the map looks.

I actually wonder what will eventually become of this land? It doesn't seem long term it can remain part of Russia but maybe it will. Who's going to take it from them?

Someone take these people in and let's get normal lives for them.

There are about 1.8 million people in the Gaza Strip. That is not many people for the world to absorb. If you want to limit it to the Muslim world that is still one less than half of one percent. So why haven't these people given the opportunity to resettle? Because they are useful pawns in the camps.

Get these people into peaceful places so they can live normal lives. How many more generations of these families have to be sacrificed waiting for some politicians to agree on something they have no interest in agreeing to.

It can kill a lot of people and blow up a lot of stuff. Somehow, that only results in an otherwise powerless, stateless, penned in people being more determined to do whatever they can to resist their occupiers.

This isn't 1948, and it's time for the modern state of Israel to grow up. It is a genuine apartheid state, governed, at present, by fanatics who stay in power because of the votes of the people who, in violation of some very serious international laws, have been encouraged to emigrate to the country and grab land from people who can't do anything to stop them, except hurl some rather large bottle rockets in the general direction of the people backing them up.

The government that's been running the show for many years likes those damn rockets! It gives them cover to keep pushing land grabs and supporting them with massive shows of force from time to time.

I'm also damn fed up with the far-right Israeli lobby's excessive influence on American politics. Why do we veto every single United Nations security council resolution that says anything not nice about Israel? We don't do that for any other country in the world. Not one. Israel is a member of quite a club, including North Korea, Pakistan and India, each of which possess nuclear weapons but won't sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

This is one very dangerous country that does indeed face an existential threat - its own behavior.

The point I made was that Jews in the Warsaw ghetto during WW2 built tunnels to smuggle goods and to attack the Germans. Why were the Palestinian tunnels "terror tunnels" when in effect they were doing exactly the same thing. Racism, pure and simple.
