Scott Walker Catches Jeb Bush In Florida: 2016 Poll
Source: Sunshine State News
A new poll shows Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is running in a dead heat with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in the Sunshine State as the 2016 presidential race looms. Gravis Marketing released its poll of Florida Republicans this week, which finds Bush ahead with 23 percent but Walker right on his heels with 22 percent. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., places third with 11 percent followed by former Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., with 10 percent. Huckabee moved to Florida after his 2008 presidential bid.
Dr. Ben Carson, who also moved to Florida recently, placed fifth with 8 percent. Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., takes 6 percent followed by U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. Two Texas Republicans lag behind: U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz takes 2 percent while former Gov. Rick Perry pulls 1 percent. An eighth of those surveyed -- 12 percent -- remain undecided. Doug Kaplan, the managing partner of Gravis Insights, said he expected the contest to come down to Bush and Walker. We are seeing the early stages of a two-man horse race between Bush and Walker, Kaplan said. Bush vs. Walker is ... inside the margin of error.
Kaplan was not as high on Rubios chances, even though he ran close to Bush when the contest came down to just the two of them. In that scenario, Bush takes 40 percent while Rubio gets 36 percent. Rubio is popular, but in his home state he is taking a back seat to Bush vs. Walker, Kaplan said. Even among Hispanics, Bush takes 24 percent, Walker 23 percent and Rubio, a Cuban-American, comes in third with 11 percent -- roughly his same level of support across the states Republicans in an open field.
The poll of 513 Florida Republicans was taken from Feb. 24-25 and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.

(4,144 posts)1 billion possibly to be spent from the Koch Bros and he can't even win his own state?

(4,144 posts)Walker will probably run as tea party light to whup Jebbie and then try and run back to the center for the general
Still In Wisconsin
(4,450 posts)He will steer back toward the center for the general election, as he did in his elections here in Wisconsin... then if elected (God forbid) he will govern extreme right.
big_dog
(4,144 posts)they are much the same. As a strategist, I would try and tie those some of those taxcutting wingnut policies (and far-right social issues) to Walker and how he would perform with a GOP majority in the US House and Senate
FBaggins
(26,735 posts)You may have that backwards.

(13,190 posts)And it's not so much of him as a candidate it's the stupidity of the American voter.Look you had union workers voting for him in the Wisconsin recall and reelection GO FIGURE!!!!

(4,144 posts)he's won three tough elections in a purple state

(36,063 posts)1) The myth of Walker is what people are responding to...the more exposure he gets the worse he'll look, certainly that's true for democrats and left-leaning independents who have a national numerical advantage
2) He won 3 elections outside of general elections. The recall was specifically timed so that it would compromise residency for college aged voters and exploit the pattern of weak democratic voting away from November general elections. This is something of a national pattern for democratic voters. To win the presidency, Walker must win in a General Election year. The teahad has built slight majority to ram thru their ill considered war on taxes, Milwaukee and 'welfare'
2a) Even in the state that looks as if if "can't get enough of him" Walker's wins have been just a few percentage points about 50%. The results have some suspicious looks to them and when Dems can't push a victory margin beyond 5% it only takes manipulation of 3% of the total vote to manufacture favorable tallies.
3) Walker's capacity to do damage isn't due to him alone. The legislature and the elected courts are all R. Anyone who can scribble a signature on ALEC boiler plate legislation that steam-rolled through Madtown would have Walker's record.
IMO, iIf the media or his primary opponents can get him away from issues where he's memorized a libertarian white paper meme he will shut up and look dumb or puts his foot in his mouth and look dumber He'll be calling WI sand-mining international policy and labor unions ISIS.

(30,738 posts)I worry about Jebbie. He could end up their nominee, and find a way to steal the election. The Bush family will stop at nothing to get what they want. Let him continue to trail, and end up out of the running.
Walker is a fool and I despise him. He will stumble badly if he is their nominee. I don't think he could win. I would love to see that phone call, the one where he is pranked into thinking he is talking to one of the Koch brothers, played over and over. There would be massive demonstrations against him in his own state. He would lose. Let it be Walker. Let the fools see what kind of soulless monsters the repubbies have to offer.

(6,419 posts)His "victory" over the unions makes him look strong to the GOP, dynamic, and there are a lot of the GOP that don't want another Bush.
I just hope that he's such a jerk that he will make some big mistakes, or maybe some skeletons in his closet will sink him

(26,735 posts)I think more people agree with you... and if he wins the nomination, he's less likely to win the general.
I think that Walker is more likely to become President (and more likely to do more damage).

(4,450 posts)He may actually be worse than Bush. Think Sarah Palin with a tie.
This country needs to see Scott Walker for the Koch-puppet he is. It scares me to think of the damage he could do to this country. This Wisconsinite is living through the mess he has made and continues to make here. It's ugly!

(4,450 posts)The official response from Walker is that he got a job too good to pass up (licking stamps for the Red Cross) and meant to finish later, but then he got married and had kids and...well you know.
The scuttlebutt is that he was "invited to leave" after being caught cheating.
All we know for sure is that he was a mediocre, disinterested student (sound familiar?) and that he was about thirty credits short of graduation when he left Marquette University during the spring semester of his fourth year.
