STUNNER: House GOP Votes Down Own Bill To Avert Shutdown

Source: TPM

WASHINGTON — In a huge embarrassment for Republican leaders, the GOP House voted down their bill Friday to avert a Homeland Security shutdown hours before the deadline.

The House GOP plan was to pass a three-week stopgap bill to delay the immigration fight with President Barack Obama until March 19.

But even that failed to pass, losing conservatives who considered it too much of a surrender as well as Democrats who demanded a yearlong DHS funding bill.

The vote was 203-224. Fifty-two Republicans voted against it, while just 12 Democrats voted for it.

These are the same exactly folks who rail at every opportunity about Obama not protecting the country by starting war with Muslim every country in the Mid-EAst except Saudi Arabia. They want police to be totally militarized too so we have warlike conditions here in the US. BUT - they vote down the money that would be used for what they themselves want. And, amazingly enough, they do this because they don't like Obama's actions on a totally unrelated subject - Immigration. Wow.

Thankfully Navy federal credit Union announced this:

24 February 2015: In the event that Congress fails to agree on funding the Department of Homeland Security, Navy Federal will cover the net amount of the normal direct deposit for members who are in the Coast Guard or employed by DHS. "Our top priority is protecting the financial well-being of our members and their families," said Cutler Dawson, Navy Federal President and CEO.

We're committed to helping our members in times of uncertainty and will update this page as more information becomes available.

That sure put her mind to ease.

It's not covering the amount of loans. this credit union is covering the usual net deposit! That's amazing and will help keep all the creditors at bay. But would guess they are only going to be able to do that for one pay check.

Glad you're here! I am actually feeling rather gleeful about what's happened. These idiots stomp into Washington DC thinking all they have to do is talk about castrating hogs or something, and everything will be just fine, and look at the mess they've created. They've owned the joint (at least Capitol Hill) since early January. It's only the end of February, and look at what a mess they've made. They can't govern their way out of a paper bag.

What always strikes me as totally nuts is - WHAT IS THE REASONING behind the wish to send into governmental positions - people who hate the government. WHERE IS THE WISDOM in that? You aim a demolition derby in the direction of any building, and what else should we expect to happen?

Again, though, I put the fault squarely on the voters.
The voters who...
A) saw fit to send these idiot jackasses into power,
and the other voters who...
B) stayed home on Election Day because they were either too lazy, too apathetic, or pouting because they didn't get their perfect candidate in there, they only had a good candidate.

They're the ones who can't win on the issues so they have to like misrepresent, cheat, rig the game, artificially tilt the playing field. They are domestic terrorists. They love fear. "TSOs have lots of reasons to worry about a DHS shutdown; being forced to work without pay would be enough to unnerve anyone. But for Vaughn and Tammy Glenn, there is twice the anxiety: Both are TSOs at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and they’re married to one another. If Congress shuts down the Department of Homeland Security this week, both would go without a paycheck. That means no income for the mortgage, the car note, or even groceries.

Vaughn and Tammy have one boy and three girls to feed, and they don’t know what to do if they are required to come to work but don’t get paid. They pay $40 a day for day care. Maybe they’ll ask the day care lady if they could pay her when they get paid. But they don’t know if she will agree. They are the primary source of income for her. If they can’t pay her, she can’t pay her bills.

ACT NOW: Help the Glenns and other TSOs prevent a DHS shutdown at our Stop the Shutdown page

Then there is a mortgage. This month they should be fine. They learned from the last shutdown almost two years ago that they have to be prepared. But they have the money only for this month. Despite being the very people who keep bombs off the planes, they don’t get paid a whole lot. He makes $42,000 a year. She makes $37,000. So if TSA shuts down and they don’t get paid, they won’t be able to pay next month’s mortgage. And the bank won’t care. The last time he was late on payments because of the shutdown and he gave the bank and credit card companies a letter TSA gave him explaining why the payments were late, they didn’t waive any fees. Many of his co-workers almost went bankrupt, their credit ruined, and the creditors didn’t care. They just wanted their money."

A powerful segment of the citizens have swallowed the propaganda of that any government is too much government and are determined to destroy any progressive legislation. This began in earnest with Reagan when he attacked social welfare programs, unions, and the government as the enemy of the common people. Government is the problem has become their rallying call. I hope that I am not around to see the collapse if saner people are unable to regain control. However, I don't see a way out of an eventual confrontation due to the massive Gerrymandering of districts. It assures the reelection of some of the most pathetic excuses to have ever been elected to represent the citizens. Some of them actually appear to be mentally ill. The situation appears to be hopeless.

Our nation has always been dramatically polarized, except for a brief window during the Southern realignment.

So, 1930-ish to 1990-ish we were not as polarized. Outside that, there was a hell of a lot of fighting. Literal fighting. There's been multiple shootings between Congressmen. Hell, we fought a civil war.

We are just returning to our natural state.

However, the disagreements were concerning what position basically the federal government must take, not whether the government should be abandoned even in the case of states rights arguments. Too many extremists are calling for the total abandonment of virtually every agency and progressive program. They are not positioning themselves in providing an alternative, but total and complete disengagement such as the radical Norquist demand to cut revenues to the point the federal government can be drowned in a bathtub. What they are advocating is a wholly capitalistic society of the survival of the fittest. In essence an oligarchy which historically has lead to eventual revolutions as the only means to respond to the gross injustices of such a society. An example of this extreme hatred of the federal government is the recent demand of the libertarians that federal lands be transferred to the state control. What will happen is that they will then become a source of revenue and sold off to highest bidder.

Too many extremists are calling for the total abandonment of virtually every agency and progressive program.

Secession happened. That's the total abandonment of virtually every agency and the small number of progressive programs at the time.

They are not positioning themselves in providing an alternative, but total and complete disengagement such as the radical Norquist demand to cut revenues to the point the federal government can be drowned in a bathtub. What they are advocating is a wholly capitalistic society of the survival of the fittest.

It's the conservative platform until about 1930. The parties have switched positions, but the "conservative" party has always been extremely libertarian. That's we started with the Articles of Confederation instead of the Constitution.

An example of this extreme hatred of the federal government is the recent demand of the libertarians that federal lands be transferred to the state control.

You mean exactly the same argument that was made against Teddy Roosevelt's push for National Parks?

We are not in a uniquely divisive time. We are coming out of a uniquely not-divisive time.

The worse they're made to look, the more of a turn-off they'll be to the rational voting world. Their own idiot dingdong clown-car-loving followers - who the hell knows? And who the hell cares?

We can get SOOOOOOOOooooooooo much mileage out of this that can leave the CONS on their asses that hopefully they STAY locked out of the White House next year, AND we at least get the Senate back, too.

protecting us from them, able to muster up the courage to do the hard calls, the patriots, the brave, the real Americans. Hmmmmm, something just seems wrong with this picture. Perhaps, the GOP is the party for/of the weak and stupid, lacking courage and wisdom to do the right things for national security!

A passenger was drilling a hole in the bottom of the boat under his seat and when admonished he replied that he had paid for his seat and had the right to do as he wished to which they replied yes, but the water that will come in will drown not only you but all of us.

These members are the failed professionals who couldn't make it in the business world so got elected under the GOP. They will make out well, doing nothing for their salary and benefits and get a lifetime pension from the people of the USA. We pay those that want to destroy this nation, how queer.
