Lynn Samuels passes away
Years ago, when she was a left wing host on WABC, Lynn Samuels used to do a change-of-pace Christmas Eve show in which, among other things, she invited listeners to sing Christmas carols.
This year on Christmas Eve, Samuels died. She was 69.
No cause of death was immediately announced. Her body was discovered after she failed to report for her 10 a.m. Saturday show at Sirius XM radio and the company asked police to go to her Woodside, Queens, home.

I used to listen to Lynn years ago when she was the only liberal on WABC in New York. May she rest in peace....

(35,662 posts)You got it: the "poorly informed, yappy aunt of the family." I could never quite figure out how to describe her, and when I first read your description, I resisted it. The more I thought about it, however, the more I think you've nailed it.
Even though I could only take her in small doses (accent, ay yi yi, and I'm from the area), I will miss her, too.
Here's a toast to Lynn.

(32,020 posts)According to http://wabcradio.com/programschedule.asp" target="_blank">this archived schedule, Samuels' show was on Saturdays 4-9PM. At least the Citadel/ABC-owned syndicated talk station in New York City (WABC) tried to have a liberal on in a sea of wrong wing noise. KSFO (San Francisco) last had a prog talker (Peter B. Collins) in '93 before going all conservative in '95 which is why Citadel also ran KGO.
At least WABC has an oldies show Saturday nights 6-9PM, a homage to the previous music radio format of the station.

(1,361 posts)--- not what I expected. She was low keyed and almost shy but pleasant. I recall one of her first WABC shows when she announced that she had farted in the broadcast booth.
"I don't know. Am I supposed to say that on radio? My mother's going to yell at me for saying fart. She wants me to be dignified."
From time to time, "Oh, they're telling me in the control booth that I am squeaking again. Ive gotta keep my voice lower."
--- and then the free association on whatever topic was on her mind like when she went to a street fair in Queens and got into a shouting match with a woman trying to cut in line to get a pickle from a street vendor.
I doubt there will ever be radio like that again.
I miss her.

(4,281 posts)I was just a teen, but grew to love her even then (and I was a rabid Republican as a late teenager). Rest in peace, I'll always love and respect you. Thank you for making me see the light on some of my views.
