Baker Declares State of Emergency to Help With Snow Removal
Source: Boston Globe
Gov. Charlie Baker has signed an emergency declaration allowing him to request help from neighboring states as Massachusetts struggles to dig out from a spate of heavy snows.
Baker signed the declaration Monday as a third storm dumped upward of two feet of snow in portions of the state.
Baker also declared a partial snow day on Tuesday applying to non-emergency state workers in the hardest hit areas of Massachusetts, including Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex and Middlesex counties.
The emergency declaration allows Massachusetts to request equipment like dump trucks and front-end loaders from nearby states. It also lets Massachusetts more quickly sign snow removal contracts with private companies.

(8,203 posts)As a commuter let out late from work (who knew back then) - and a one hour driving commute turned into 3 -Braintree to Holliston - boy are they getting wicked smacked (I was lucky to make it home in 78 - so many had to abandon their cars on RT 128 ) - I feel their pain..all you can do is make sure you have heat (we had a fire place - brought mattresses into the living room..3 little kiddos at the time), they call us the French toast crowd - bread milk and eggs.. maple syrup was a staple in our home...because I had 3 kiddos I was last on CD (civil defense Telco workers were essential) call -
On the fifth day, a front end loader came down the street, we were one of the last due to our remote location..
Please be safe all..stay off the roads and check on neighbors...

(1,352 posts)But have lived here for over 30 years and this is the worst winter I can remember in the entire time. Never so much snow in such a short time, and more is coming on Thursday. I hate it.

(8,976 posts)...if, say, Florida, Alabama, and Texas were adjacent states. But I kinda doubt that the Actual five adjacent states (NH, Vermont, NY, Conn., and RI) have a bunch of spare snowplows laying around...
