United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley said Wednesday theres still an open question as to whether the U.S. will send its athletes to South Korea in February for the Winter Olympics, citing escalating tensions with North Korea.

The 2018 Winter Olympics start Feb. 9, 2018, and are being held in PyeongChang, South Korea, which is roughly 50 miles from the demilitarized zone.
Haley said U.S. officials will monitor activity in the region closely, and determine a way to ensure athletes are protected. "What we will do is well make sure that were taking every precaution possible to make sure that theyre safe, and to know everything thats going on around them, she said.
Asked if that meant theres still uncertainty over whether U.S. athletes will participate, Haley said its an open question. I have not heard anything about that, but I do know in the talks we have whether its about Jerusalem or North Korea, its about how do we protect the U.S. citizens in the area. So those are conversations that are happening daily, she said.

(21,848 posts)1. This came after Russia was banned, right?
It's as though Putin called his puppet and said that USA can't go to the Olympics because Russia can't go.
get the red out
(13,466 posts)3. Exacactly!
The timing is VERY suspicious! If there are such security concerns about South Korea why are there no restrictions on Americans traveling there in general?

(7,768 posts)2. So Nikki Haley says "open question" whether U.S. will send athletes and Lindsay Graham is saying...
military dependents should leave South Korea, this is starting to paint a very frightening picture.
