General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsNo matter what some here are telling you: THIS TAX BILL ISN'T OVER YET.
Now is the most critical time, because the House and the Senate passed different bills.
Either this bill goes to reconciliation, and the two Houses have to both vote on a new, amended bill,
OR the House has to approve the putrid Senate bill, AS IS.
And every single member of the House is up for re-election next year.
SO KEEP UP ALL THE PRESSURE ON THEM. KEEP THE PHONE CALLS, EMAILS, AND LETTERS COMING.
NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO STOP!

The House and Senate have now passed their respective tax bills. Next, they have to figure out how to reconcile their differences.
The negotiations will happen in a conference committee, where Republicans from the House and Senate will get together to try to hash out a final plan. Once they do, both chambers will have to pass it again. Republican leaders and the White House want to pass a final bill by the end of the year and send it to President Trumps desk.
The House and Senate bill have their biggest features in common: They would both slash the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent, a historic reduction in the taxes levied on businesses at a time when Americans support raising taxes on corporations.
But there are also some big differences, including how permanent this tax overhaul would be. The House bill makes its changes to the individual tax code permanent; the Senate bill would allow many major provisions to expire after 2025 in order to comply with Senate rules that limit how much a bill that cant be filibustered can increase the federal deficit.

(382 posts)My comment was about disrespect. Telling people to 'Stuff it' is not the best way to motivate them to respond the way you want them to. If Washington had disrespected his men...aw heck. Not worth spending more time on this. Sorry you missed my point.

(382 posts)Don't assume this groundswell for Democrats will be enough to win elections! What happened in 2016 was just a practice round in election theft. We have to use EVERY opportunity to push back when there's a glimmer of hope we can sabotage Repub dirty deals. This taxpayer tax theft doesn't get any dirtier than this. We don't need to flip the whole Congress. We only need to convince a handful to do the right thing and choose country over party.
If 'We the People' aren't willing to fight for our rights, just who do you think is gonna do it for us?

(92,502 posts)trouble with the corporate tax rate decrease not taking effect until 2019, and that this tax plan would need to be renewed in 2025. A good number of republicans do not want it to have to be renewed, but want to make it permanent
There are other issues also where the Senate version and the House version do not agree, and the House will not just accept the Senate version

Call, write, attend events, phone bank, etc. This is promising. I have received a lot of emails today from various groups who are fighting and they are serious and organized. There is a nationwide phone call tomorrow and I urge everyone to sign up. Birnie is out on the streets in PA and Ohio. This is NOT over yet and the fat lady has not sung!

(1,570 posts)Let's be realistic here. There's going to be a strong "just get it done" mentality for the house to pass the senate bill. (likely in the next week) Especially if they think the whole house of cards is going to collapse before the next election.
