Flynn to testify that Trump directed him to make contact with Russians: Reports
Former National Security Advisor Gen. Michael Flynn is reportedly willing to testify that President Donald Trump and Trump transition officials directed him to make contact with Russians during Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.
Flynn has pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI, a felony that is believed to be part of a deal to cooperate with Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
Trump has vehemently denied that he ever had anything to do with Russia.
Citing a Flynn "confidant," ABC News' Brian Ross reported that Flynn has "promised full cooperation" with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, and he is "prepared to testify against President Trump, against members of the Trump family and others in the White House. He is prepared to testify that President Trump, as a candidate, Donald Trump, ordered and directed him to make contact with the Russians, which contradicts all that Donald Trump has said at this point."

Just posted because it's from another source besides ABC.
A few people seemed worried about ABC being the only source reporting this.

do I fall on my sword and continue lying for the Trump
or do I tell the truth and testify?

(62,444 posts)No it's not. It's CNBC reporting that ABC is reporting it.
Citing a Flynn "confidant," ABC News' Brian Ross reported that
Well, duh, we know ABC reported that.
This is not some kind of independent confirmation. It's basically CNBC saying "ABC is saying..."
orangecrush
(19,620 posts)it does, however, lend confidence to the ABC report.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)Actually, it shows a lack of confidence by CNBC, since they are careful to attribute the report to ABC.
That sort of "report" is along the lines of "don't blame us if it isn't true, because we are only saying ABC said it."
I jumped the gun on that one too. We'll have to wait and see. I keep checking the WaPost.
Still, ABC is not exactly an unreliable or tabloid source.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)Which may or may not be accurate, since there is no way to tell.
ABC is reporting "anonymous source says X". Other outlets are reporting "ABC is reporting that anonymous source says X".
Independent confirmation would be for another outlet to report it in a way which does not refer back to the ABC report.

(62,444 posts)Flynn's indictment refers to "senior campaign official".
The OP is about Trump directing him.
Do you see that these are not the same thing?
I hate to be a nudge about stuff like this, but that WaPo story is based on public facts, because that's exactly what the indictment said. The ABC report, which may be true for all we know, is a sole-source report, of which this WaPo piece referring to "senior transition officials" is not confirmation.
We already know that senior officials had instructed Flynn, because that's among what he just admitted. That's not the same thing as "Trump". We'll have to wait and see.

(62,444 posts)It would be good if the report were accurate. We'll have to wait and see.
But, yeah, there are people on DU who think "independent confirmation" is when one network reports "another network is reporting".
Quite obviously CNBC has no independent information on this, and is simply passing on what ABC is reporting.
The circular logic doesn't seem apparent to everyone.

(19,620 posts)But the CNBC headline lends confidence to the ABC report.
I don't see "maybe" in the headline.
I do see your point, though.
Fingers crossed.

(19,620 posts)but hopefully this indicates confidence in the ABC report.
