(9,426 posts)McCain to Iraq? Surrounded by armed military, helicopters overhead, strolling in the market? He was gushing about finding two throw rugs for only $5. He was just beside himself with the sheer joy of that purchase. Both said how safe they felt there. Yeah, right, wearing flak jackets, helmets and surrounded by military protectors. BOTH of them are disgusting.

(21,506 posts)Both Iraqis and Americans alike were stunned by the audacity of Senator John McCains heavily publicized (and heavily armed) excursion through Baghdads Shorja market last weekend. There was the leading proponent of the war on Capitol Hill, setting out to confirm his recent claim that the escalation of U.S. forces is greatly improving conditions on the ground, accompanied by a handful of Congressional colleagues. He seemed to think nobody would notice that their little shopping trip also included a platoon of soldiers, three Black Hawk choppers and two Apache gunships.
Neither the Iraqi merchants used as props in this strange exercise nor the American voters who were its intended targets could possibly have been deceived by such a charade. So the question that inevitably arises is whether Mr. McCain and company are still attempting to dupe usor whether they have finally duped themselves.
Consider the happy talk from Representative Mike Pence, an ultraconservative Indiana Republican who has visited Iraq on several occasions. At the press conference that inevitably followed the Shorja photo op, Mr. Pence said he had been inspired by the opportunity to mix and mingle unfettered among ordinary Iraqis, drinking tea and haggling over carpets. To him, the Baghdad shops were like a normal outdoor market in Indiana in the summer time. Senator Lindsey Graham, the McCain sidekick and Republican of South Carolina, boasted of buying five rugs for five bucks, marveling that just a few weeks ago, hundreds of people, dozens of people were killed in the same place.
Then they climbed back into one of the armored vehicles that served as their tourist buses and returned to the Green Zone with Mr. McCain and Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of American forces in Iraq.

(9,426 posts)entire group. McCain took these trips at taxpayer expense, trying to tear down President Obama. Vile traitors the whole group of gop members. I forgot that "Holy Mike" Pence was along for the ride. His mommy/wife must have let him off leash for the trip. He is not allowed to be around females without her along. Is he one of those "p**y grabbers too I wonder?

(4,245 posts)Why the fuck is that funny, to the pundits or anybody? It's like when somebody says, "This is hilarious." But it isn't. It's ironic or hypocritical, but it ain't goddamned funny. Stop fucking laughing. I'm as depressed as anybody out there about the shit this absolute motherfucker and his crew of clowns are doing and laughing about ANY of it makes it somehow more acceptable to those who don't pay fucking attention like we do. So, save your lone ranger comment for someone else. This isn't fucking funny.

(3,233 posts)I cannot rage 24 hours a day about the disaster in the White House. Cant do that to my family and friends, most of whom agree with us. My pets already avoid me when the TV is on. Ill lose my job.
None of these helps The Resistance. And we need everyone healthy.
Firefighters and EMTs have to joke about their jobs to stay sane.
So thanks for sharing.

(34,120 posts)I have had the saddest, most depressing and traumatic day ever and I was just sitting here overwhelmed with the horrid news of my day and the news I missed during this day. This made me laugh out loud, seriously loudly with tears (good one's finally) and everything.
Jake Tapper, for some reason I have always liked him. This was outstanding and whoever found that should be given a raise.
