Gun enthusiast destroys AR15 with a sledgehammer

(NBC News) One Southern California man is doing his small part to help end gun violence - by smashing his AR15 to pieces with a sledgehammer.

Chad Vachter is a gun owner and gun enthusiast from Riverside County.

His AR15 assault rifle was one of his most prized possessions, but Vachter says the growing number of mass shootings in the United States, including one last week in Rancho Tehama, have hit too close to home. He's had enough.

"I can't do it. I can't have something in my house that so easily could become a part of another situation like that, and I'm not going to be desensitized to it, I refuse to," Vachter says.

In 2015 ...

"Arizona has passed a law making it illegal for cities to destroy guns bought in buy-back programs. The new law kicks in this summer, and requires cities to sell the guns that are turned in."

Until recently I had a couple of family members in Tucson and for years we would compare the idiocy of our respective state governments (I live in NC). This is one instance wherein AZ definitely outdid NC, though we make up for it in many other categories.

Kinda crazy huh? Cops take in guns to get them off the street then have to sell them back to the public. Of course they don't do buy backs anymore which was the intent of the law. Effing NRA.

Every bit of which was enacted when slavery was legal, do you want to piss on?

If you support gun restrictions, the 2d Amendment isn’t your problem. Popular opinion is though.

That's why the gun industry spends so much money on politicians and advertising, doing their very best to sell those remaining fetishists increasingly absurd and dangerous guns.

Gun fetishists are, but still wondering which parts of the Constitution you’d like to piss on, other than the 2d Amendment. The 4th Amendment? The 8th? The emoluments clause? What about the provision empowering Congress to grant letters of marque and reprisal?

Someday reasonable people will prevail and disarm those who are not fit to own or carry guns.

I may or may not be talking about you and your guns, but my standards are high. I doubt I'd qualify most cops to carry guns.

An interim patch might be a much narrower interpretation of the "well regulated militia" part, like no, you don't get to keep anything capable of firing more than two quick shots in your home, no semi-automatics, not even any revolvers.

Banning lead bullets might be a good thing too.

I swear, the smoke of nitrocellulose smokeless powders and toxic lead seem to make frequent shooters a little weird.

Maybe they'd be better off with air guns and steel pellets.

Don't think I'm being sarcastic.

Gun love is a public health issue, just like syphilis or gonorrhea.

"Every bit of which [the Constitution] was enacted when slavery was legal."

13th amendment made slavery illegal so all parts of the Constitution added since then ....

And popular opinion is not his problem; popular opinion is firmly on his side (in supporting gun restrictions). http://www.pollingreport.com/guns.htm
