Update: Northern CA Gunman Also Killed His Wife

From the local news website (KHSL in Chico, CA):

We learned some new things in today’s press conference about the shooter.

We learned that a search warrant was conducted at the shooters home. Deputies found the body of Kevin Neal’s wife hidden under the floor of his home.

During the investigation neighbors reported there was an incident on Monday evening at the home. Deputies believe that he killed his wife Monday evening during a domestic dispute.

Deputies were looking for her Tuesday and were not able to locate her until Neal’s home was searched.

We also learned that Neal had a history with the Sheriff’s Department. Neal was out on bail since January when he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies put Neal’s home under surveillance two separate times to try and find him in violation. Neal never came out of his home during the surveillance.

It was also revealed that the guns Neal used were 2 semi-automatic rifles, which were not registered. Deputies believed he manufactured at his home.

The Sheriff’s Department also wants people in the community to look out for each other. Neal went through several neighborhoods randomly shooting his gun at homes. They suggest that everyone check on their neighbors.

Michael Moore told the Real Time audience that in Canada the men who want to buy guns must get written permission from their current and former spouses to OK it. Since 98% of gun shootings are committed by men and since most women who die by guns are shot by their spouse or partner during a domestic violence situation this has proven to be quite effective. There is a good, short article on men, guns, testosterone and violence from Time Mag. American men are worse since it is part of the American macho man culture our country raises boys in. Mix that with second amend excuses and the US male is an extremely dangerous individual when allowed to own a gun.

Not at all. Completely opposed to the idea that anyone in the US needs another citizen's approval to exercise his or her 2d Amendment rights. Should women who want to buy guns get permission from their significant other? Maybe we should also require spousal permission before exercising 1st Amendment rights?

Michael Moore told the Real Time audience that in Canada the men who want to buy guns must get written permission from their current and former spouses to OK it.

Michael Moore is wrong or is being inaccurately quoted. Here's how the application instructions read:

The signatures of your current or former conjugal partners is not legally required. However, if their signatures is not provided, the Chief Firearms Officer has a duty to notify them of your application for a firearms licence.

In other words, they don't have to "OK it." They merely have to be informed of it.

It still seems like a pretty good system to me compared with what we have now. Too many spouses/partners are harmed by guns in domestic violence. Often men who go on to kill others have a history of violence, guns, and it is often linked to a woman who is a victim. Women are the victims of violence and it must be reduced by any means possible. We are the majority of the US population and have put up with this sort of treatment for thousands of years. It is time for the planet to become a matriarchal society. Give us a chance to make and enforce the laws and rules...it is way past our turn. Shit, we certainly can't screw society up any more than patriarchal societies have done for 2,000+ years.
