My thoughts on the Dark Knight shooting.

Well, I was at the midnight premier in my hometown so this hits close to home, since I'm now thinking how easily this could have been me or my friends who were shot. It's really kind of scary to think about, but more than that I feel sick right now. What was the point in this? What did the shooter hope to achieve? It's all very sad and messed up. I'm a huge fan of Batman and loved the new movie, I was planning on going back to see it again with some other friends of mine, but now I don't think I will. As much as I love Batman, I don't think I'll be able to watch Dark Knight Rises and not think of the senseless death. I know it's stupid since Nolan and the others involved with the movie had nothing to do with it, and I don't think the movie in anyway caused this, it is just still stuck with me. All in all, a terrible tragedy. I hope the victims and their families can recover from this tragedy and find peace.

Like I said as a huge Batman fan of both Nolan's trilogy and the comics, I don't know if I could watch it again and I thought it was a great movie. I'm far more worried about gun sales than the movie, though. I really doubt the movie had anything to do with it other than being a good target. Guns had a lot to do with it. He need better controls.

However,on the topic of the movie having something to do with the shooting. On a comic book forum someone mentioned that a news report claimed a witness heard the shooter shouting "some people just want to watch the world burn" quoting the Joker from Dark Knight, but I haven't heard anything to confirm that so it could be the media reporting without all the facts.

The shooter said nothing, and in fact didn't talk till the cops surrounded him by his car.

Usually people like this can never shut up about their motivations. The fact that he didn't talk to the police makes me think this may not have been motivated by anything other than insanity. If it was some political or religious thing he would probably be preaching his views for all to hear.

Witnesses in the Theater said, the SHOOTER said nothing while in the act of shooting. It was not until the police surrounded him that he said he had explosives in the car, and at his apartment.

But please, explain how this is the fault of ANYONE but the shooter.

He did this on his own.

I don't know the shooter's political stance, if he even has one. That said, think of how many times the far-right media has called for rebellion against an individual or cause and someone has acted upon it. Whether it is a direct result or not, it's hard not to make the connection. We'll have to wait to see if this case is related, and may never find out. I hope the guy rots in a nasty rat-infested cell for the rest of his life.
