Kelleys wife, Danielle Shields, was a past teacher at the same church where the tragedy took place. They were still married with 2 children
His mother-in-law, has a P.O. box listed in Sutherland Springs, and her Facebook profile also indicates that she lives in the same town.
His mil is Facebook friends with the wife of the pastor, Sherri Pomeroy, indicating the family had strong ties to the church. The Pomeroys lost their daughter in the tragedy
None of Kelly's family or in laws have been identified as victims of the shooting yet.
Are all angry people who kill mentally ill? Seems to be the slant so far on this killer.
Jails are full of murderers . Should they all be in mental institutions instead? Where is the fine line?

Guns, not family issues. It was a man firing a gun that killed those people today in Texas and every single other mass shooting we care to mention. Guns. Not anything else.

My post was more in response to the lack of info I have seen in the media up to this time
The media I observed all say they don't know yet why he would go there , no clue
Seems there were connections
Also the second part of the OP is the same media talking about his probable mental illness as if that must be the problem

(25,920 posts)If he hadn't had ready access to a gun, he wouldn't have done it.
That shouldn't be so hard to understand. Oh, I know you do understand that, but the NRA and all the gun apologists out there don't.
Maybe we need some sort of public service ad that says something like, "Got a gun? Who will you kill today?"
I an so angry, so completely over every possible justification for guns that I'm rather incoherent on the topic. Let's start with confiscating guns. And I don't want any "reasonable" people here pointing out why that's not possible. Not possible? So you're saying it's perfectly okay that mass murders like this one, like Las Vegas, like Sandy Hook, like every other mass shooting in our country is okay. Acceptable. Because, lord knows, we can't even begin to think about taking guns away from law abiding citizens. And those who will use those guns to kill a bunch of people Because someone else's right to a gun is greater than my right to continue living.
Well fuck this. Fuck every single person who justifies gun ownership. I sincerely hope that each and every one of you loses someone to a mass shooting. And if after that you say it's worth it, it's okay your wife, son, cousin brother, niece died because guns are more important than their lives, I'll tell you that you're a complete psychopath and not fit to live in a civilized society.

(47,583 posts)It is the male gun culture here that is the problem.

(82,849 posts)You think those backwoods snake handlers are demonstrating some kind of cock-eyed faith? That's nothing compared to how the United States has faith in violence. It is the panacea for anything that ails us. We believe violence will keep us safe, rid us of our enemies, make men out of boys, and lead to 35% fewer cavities. Okay, maybe not the cavity thing, but our total, unwavering faith in violence to solve problems puts any other demonstrations of faith to utter shame.

you are correct in your reasoning.

(51,646 posts)It isn't mental illness, religion, political affiliation, country of origin, race, culture, age, marital status, military service, personal wealth, genetics, state, finances, etc. It isn't about the killer's favorite flavor of ice cream, sports team, boxers or briefs, etc. The single common factor is the gender=MALE! Perhaps being a male in combination with some of the other factors is the real reason that this is occurring at such a rapid rate.

(100,118 posts)And it's pretty easy to see that it's much easier to shoot someone if you have a gun vs not having one, and the NRA has done all but fully legalize murder in the last 5 years. They have literally made it easy for anybody regardless of age, gender, race, whatever to buy giant mass killing machines. And people like Alex Jones get a hard on every time someone even mentions the words "gun control" in the same sentence. You can make points all you want, but the 800 pound gorilla in the room is the gun. That is it. There is nothing else we need to argue.

(100,118 posts)Male, female, gay, straight... anybody can get a gun. The guns are the problem. The gun lobby is the problem. Any attempt to keep us fighting over anything relating to shooting someone with a gun, is to distract us from the problem that is the gun.

(3,194 posts)I agree 100% with those who posted the correct reason. It all comes down to his easy access to guns, and the gun culture this country has.
