Kelly performance at WHPB demonstrates that we have no end in sight.

I won't add my personal speculations as to WHY so many of our leaders continue to coddle Trump, but as John Kelly's performance amply demonstrated, they have no intention of checking his insanity or removing him from office.

1. Could they be surreptitiously taking steps? Just a thought

If they would come public with any sort of info on trying to contain him, he'd just go off of the rails, even more, and who knows what sort of terror he would cause, just out of anger.

4. I can't begin to fathom the rationale that has allowed anyone to accept things thus far...

To be honest, I privately indulge in mercurial daily levels of conspiracy, and the dynamics around the Trump presidency are a ripe fallow for such sinister possibilities. But all conspiracies aside, there is no excuse for this abomination of a president still being in office unless large swaths of our government are comprised and the public remains digitally enraged but physically neutered. It is both the fault of those in power and those of us standing idly by that this man still inhabits the White House.

2. I would love to know some speculations? Does he have dirt on them or something?

5. Absolute power corrupts absolutely

Those who didn't compromise themselves to gain their place in this cabal have done so by continued association with it.

That said, I mainly suspect that the primary motivation for at least Kelly is a patriotic sense (however misguided) to right the Ship of State. There is legitimate concern that removing Trump from office could quite quickly lead to armed civil conflict because of his delusional supporters; many of whom would genuinely love nothing less. I live in Trumpganistan, and these crazy fucks are ready to fire shots over the NFL protests, let alone any attempt to dethrone their Dear Leader. It truly is a cult of personality.

There are obviously many involved with this administration for selfish, short term gain or glory. There are also players with treasonous, insidious motives. And I suspect there are some, like Kelly, who were dared to ride the dragon and now have to hold on so that it doesn't wreck AS catastrophically.

Fuck them all.

3. This has been very clear for the past six months.

Nothing has changed.

6. Unless he's hauled out of the White House in handcuffs

No one is going to do anything about him. The Dems don't have the power, and the Repigs still think he's useful to them.

7. Argh

I find myself both confused and upset by Kelly at the press briefing. I get that he can't come out and say Trump is nuts but I didn't expect him to normalize him either.

8. I think confused and upset is entirely deserved

...and not just because of today's briefing. Our entire culture has become a bewildering array of competing fictions.

9. I've stopped believing the "White House in chaos" stories.

Seems each week there's a new tale of an unhinged President Trump on the precipice of a total meltdown surrounded by a demoralized, mutinous staff. They all quote the same "unnamed White House insiders" and "officials close to the President".

And then we get Kelly's press briefing today telling us it's all bullshit. And as far as I can tell, he seems to be right.
