Kiss the Boys Goodbye. Internet Prices will skyrocket

https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20171004/09404038343/wall-street-predicts-apathetic-regulators-limited-competition-will-let-comcast-double-broadband-prices.shtml

Wall Street predicts that cable giants like Comcast will soon be cashing in on the one-two punch of rubber stamp regulators and an ongoing lack of competition in the broadband space. Under the Obama administration, regulators turned a blind eye to the fact that cable giants like Comcast were taking advantage of a lack of competition to impose arbitrary and unnecessary usage caps and overage fees. Under the Trump administration that apathy has ballooned ten fold, with the looming assault on net neutrality only green lighting Comcast's ability to use those fees to raise rates and hamstring streaming competitors.

I'm on a fixed income. I have already gotten rid of Cable TV. I live in a rural area in a apartment that doesn't have any outside antenna so I can't get over the air channels. I just moved into my area and there is only one cable company that provides Internet and I have a 12 month discount of $40 per month, but the price goes up to $70+ after that. My apartment complex does not have any land line telephone unless I pay $100+ in installation fees so I can't get DSL at $55 per month. But the DSL speed here is 1.5MBps down and 100k up.

It appears that the Internet and TV is only for the middle class and wealthy.

I don't even have it hanging on a wall. I just lean it against the inside something by my TV. I get pretty good reception for local channels. I picked it up at Walmart a year ago I think.

ATT and Comcast. Somehow they both have the same price for internet and other services....Wonder why that might be?

One alternative that is getting cheaper is cellular. A plan with enough data to be useful might be the way to go, you get phone too.

A friend of mine moved to a area with no comcast, and AT@T service was garbage. I found him a plan with T-mobile for $35.00 for 8 GB a month, the hardware was about $50.00. He gets really good speeds with T-mobile.

He's "in the business" (we haven't had cable for 8 years). And he might be able to suggest a setup. KWR suggests left of the Mississippi? Where you are makes a difference.

I fully expect Trumps FCC to install a rich only Wi-Fi system.
