https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20171004/09404038343/wall-street-predicts-apathetic-regulators-limited-competition-will-let-comcast-double-broadband-prices.shtmlI'm on a fixed income. I have already gotten rid of Cable TV. I live in a rural area in a apartment that doesn't have any outside antenna so I can't get over the air channels. I just moved into my area and there is only one cable company that provides Internet and I have a 12 month discount of $40 per month, but the price goes up to $70+ after that. My apartment complex does not have any land line telephone unless I pay $100+ in installation fees so I can't get DSL at $55 per month. But the DSL speed here is 1.5MBps down and 100k up.
It appears that the Internet and TV is only for the middle class and wealthy.

(10,952 posts)I don't even have it hanging on a wall. I just lean it against the inside something by my TV. I get pretty good reception for local channels. I picked it up at Walmart a year ago I think.

One alternative that is getting cheaper is cellular. A plan with enough data to be useful might be the way to go, you get phone too.

(28 posts)A friend of mine moved to a area with no comcast, and AT@T service was garbage. I found him a plan with T-mobile for $35.00 for 8 GB a month, the hardware was about $50.00. He gets really good speeds with T-mobile.
