America's passion for guns: ownership and violence by the numbers

I thought this was an interesting article from The Guardian on some gun statistics from the United States.

Not only is the United States the runaway world leader for gun ownership – it also suffers mass shootings at more than 11 times the rate of any other developed country, according to a 2014 study published in the International Journal of Criminal Justice Sciences.

3. The "price" of freedom

Is now running in the neighborhood of $3 Billion USD per year for treating the gunshot wounds, rehabilitation, and long term care for the estimated 100K Americans shot each year. That cost likely does not factor in things like lost income of the person shot or any family members who have to care for their loved one. Factor in lost wages and life insurance payouts for the dead and the cost rises into the $40 to $50B range.

Given the number of wounded, the "price" of freedom in Las Vegas will likely run into the tens of millions for just healthcare costs.

I'm sick of this crap.
