I've been here since 2002.
I hope and pray the new folks are involving themselves in helping free our incredible nation from Republicans. I hope that's why they're here, and not to troll and cause dissent among members.
We ARE the best Democratic community on the 'net. THAT I promise. If you can contribute positively (or with humor) please do so. If you can contribute monetarily (hard for me on a very limited income, but I try), please do so.
THE. BEST. COMMUNITY. PERIOD.
We are a neighborhood, we argue, we bitch, we poopy-head, we say I FUCKING QUIT, we get nasty and basic. That's part of community. Stick around. We make a difference. WE helped (DU) get Obama his first win, and his second.
I live in a weird place with great people. When I learned Obama had won the nomination? I was in a doctor's office for a pee test! I did, but jumped up and cried BEFORE pulling pants up..............
Blushed a lot................
We were taking care of my dad-in-love when Obama won. I was in the living area, Arthur (my dad-in-love) was in his recliner, and the TV was on........... he tried SO HARD to stand up but he did yell and cheer. He died the next year at 86.
My mom, who died at 94, voted for Hillary. Then Obama. We're a long line of Democrats, starting with whenever.......... never voted differently.
DU? It seems most of the "newbies" are really good folks who just found us. Support them if you can, argue with them, call them idiots (NOT to the point where it gets judged by peers) and ENJOY. Be as nice as you can. We are your neighborhood, we are your community, we are your extended family.
The Wielding Truth
(11,419 posts)the first to donate to a DU fund that would help to fight back against the disease of selfishness that is the Republican Party. I don't know how to set it up. Who here is good at that? Where, as a group, do we begin?

(4,940 posts)DU distributes evenly everywhere. If you want to designate? Post a website. It'll happen.

(14,578 posts)for all you've done to help build and maintain DU. I'm a newcomer here, but at 70YO have been a faithful Democrat all my life and couldn't dream of any other way. My earliest memories of the Party was Al Gore, Sr. from the area where I was raised. One of my bitterest memories was candyman Bill Brock defeating him.
Coming here late after suffering from the Nixon, Reagan and Bush X2 years, I find myself needed to vent a lot but try hard to keep it civil. Apparently, you folks have learned to be tolerant of us newbies, as no one has slammed me (yet) for being long-winded. I have a lot of steam to vent, LOL.
Being here is a blessing and helps relieve the massive frustration we're suffering from both as a nation and a Party. It also gives me courage there is a good future, but massive hurdles to overcome - particularly with campaign finance and gerrymandering issues.
You're right, DU is extended family. Keep up the good work!

(4,940 posts)I don't quit. I send newbies (high school and new college) here, as much as I can. They're as angry as I've seen since 1970. But if I can persuade to act instead of just talk?
Damn, we have good folks.

(14,578 posts)Would seem that involvement in a Young Democrats group would be good, and hopefully one with good leadership. Most states have them now but unfortunately, not so much in rural America.
Just as important, it's imperative for us old timers to take more interest in our youth and encourage them and help them sort out the good stuff from the chaff. Goodness knows, there's a constant onslaught of chaff on social media. No better way to help our youth than encouraging them to reduce their time on Facebook and Twitter, and replace it with "ladies and gentlemen" face-to-face dialog.
It also helps our side by getting youth involved with conservation projects, local politics, protest efforts, attending political meet-and-greets and just being good, compassionate neighbors. To me, that's ground-up liberal politics.
Best of luck with the young folks you work with and have a good week!
