Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones takes a knee alongside entire team in defiance of Trump

The Dallas Cowboys and team owner Jerry Jones took a knee prior to the national anthem on Monday in their game against the Arizona Cardinals, SB Nation reports.

The team, their coach Jason Garrett and their owner stood with linked arms during the anthem itself, both moves in defiance of President Donald Trump’s pointed remarks at athletes who protest police brutality on the field.

Jones previously supported Trump, and donated $1 million to his inauguration. He was also reportedly critical of players who “took a knee” prior to the president’s comments last Friday.

I live in the Dallas area. That the Dallas Cowboys, self styled as "America's Team", just took a knee with the owner is a pretty big deal.

Jerry Jones is one of the oligarchs--a big,big deal in the NFL and in American business. Regardless of what you think of him he has always been a strong supporter of all that is status quo. He is one of "them".

That he has gone against Trump because of Trump's attack on black athletes in the NFL and the NBA is revealing. Trump's actions have provoked a surprising backlash.

Again, I live here. I couldn't have predicted this.

Things are getting weirder every day.

I'm so tired of this shit.

and if Jerry Jones didn't he could fire them all and he wouldn't have a team.

the manner in which he fired Tom Landry.

Tonight I forgave him. I am so grateful to see what he did with his team. Color me finally impressed.
Now, if he'll just hire Kaepernick....😎

KUDOS to The Cowboys!!

(sidenote, I know in the last couple of weeks or months I had read official position was there would be none of this on the field, would not be tolerated. Thanks Trump, you changed Jerry's mind. Awesome job!!)

laughing my ass off

I live in Dallas too and I'm sure heads were exploding everywhere. Jerry Jones got it right. You can kneel together with your teammates right to protest injustice while still respecting the symbol of our country during the national anthem. By separating the two-flag and injustice-the Dallas Cowboys destroyed Trump's bullshit of suggesting that protest is un-American. Not really a big fan of the NFL, Dallas Cowboys or Jerry Jones (I'm a college football fan) but tonite I salute America's team. This is now the standard-we support our Country, the right to protest and resistance to litt' Donald Trump

Shannon Sharpe makes some good points in the video on the page linked below that the owners weren't giving a damn until Trump told them directly to do something, and if there's on thing rich people hate, it's being told what to do as well as having their brand attacked.

Also, I'm worried that with the owners stepping up to defend their players (or, like I said, their brand), it's going to water down the original message. It's kind of like, All Lives Matter taking steam away from Black Lives Matter.

I will, however, remain cautiously optimistic.

But watch the video. He makes several good points.
