Dear Famous Liberals Who Refused To Vote For Hillary Clinton,
Its time to call bullshit on your so-called social-political revolution one that only a person of extreme privilege has the luxury to champion. Susan Sarandon, lets start with you. I know you were so excited and encouraged by the idea that maybe if everything is falling apart so obviously, we would come together as a people. But spare me your sympathies now that Judgment Day has come.

(11,110 posts)as a long-ago political science major, I like to put labels to political positions. So, what label do you propose. I can think of a few but none could be used in a political science text.
Expecting Rain
(811 posts)the most appropriate term that one could use in polite conversation.
Sarandon (et al) have an anti-liberal ideology, so calling her a liberal is inaccurate in political science terms and tarnishes our brand in the real world.

(11,110 posts)However, I question whether either the left or right wing versions are really populist. They both seem rather elitist.
Expecting Rain
(811 posts)it's always a charade by elitists who claim to represent "the will of the people" (even when it is clear that they do not) and then they turn authoritarian when/if they grab power.

(11,110 posts)The premise is that populism is an intentional misnomer.
Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)Some form "the volk" or the people, as the Evil One claimed in Nazi Germany and everyone else is "the other," such as Jews, Communists, Roma, Slaves, and the mentally or physically disabled.
The "other" are subhuman, the root of all of society's evils, and they deserve to be subjugated and/or killed.
Trump's playbook (and Greene's) isn't so different. They target Mexicans, trans people, African Americans and others as their scapegoats, but the basics are the same.
Dangerous stuff.

(11,257 posts)Sarandon has always come across as more of a poser, and this isn't her first ride on the purity train.
Dawson has always seemed much more grounded and earnest. I'm watching all of the Marvel shows on Netflix now and she's great in them.

"In the run-up to the 2016 election, Kaepernick repeatedly made it clear he didn't approve of either President-elect Donald Trump or Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. On Election Day, Kaepernick said he would not be voting and followed through on that promise.
Kaepernick said it "didn't matter" who won the election because neither candidate was a good choice."

Shit I was very supportive of him up until I just read that.
He can FO now as far as I'm concerned!

(4,532 posts)I share your frustration towards people who refused to vote for Hillary out of privilege, but if they're opposing the trump administration's heartless attack on DACA why shouldn't they speak? We need as much opposition to these nazis as we can get.

They don't give a damn, they have mountains of cash that will protect them no matter who is in charge of the government.
Money changes everything with very few exceptions.
Bad Thoughts
(2,535 posts)This is a preposterous position. Everyone should protest every curtailment of rights, even if they voted for Trump himself.
Nevernose
(13,081 posts)A privilege we don't usually associate with women or black men. They've got a protective aura (or a filter that only allows dumbness in or out) that means Trump probably won't fuck them over. Money, fame, public platform, whatever.
But if you couldn't figure out that Trump would be a total fucking nightmare on so many levels, for so many vulnerable people, then fuck you. Fuck you, fuck the horse you rode in on, and then fuck you again.
I'm not a big fan of Hillary's foreign policy or tendency towards neoliberal economic solutions for social issues. So fucking what? I think she's petty and entitled, but you know what's even MORE petty and entitled? Deporting a bunch of kids because their parents committed crimes, or unilaterally revoking consent decrees with local police, or blabbing the top secret intelligence of multiple nations to the Russians because you want to impress them, or gutting perfectly sensible environmental regulations because the guy who enacted them made a joke at your expense five fucking years ago, or a thousand other things.
So if you not only didn't vote for Clinton, but actively encouraged others not to vote for Clinton? Then fuck you.
