The water was up to the horses' backs. Horses can swim, so if they are given a safe path to dry ground they can be transported out of the area.

I know during hurricane emergencies in the past, horse owners have transported their horses out of the danger zone but then had problems finding places to keep them until their own facilities were safe and could be provided with water, feed, and hay.

Having someone offer space for long term stays could be a life saver for the horses and take pressure off the owners who may have lost their own places to live.
