I can see him going full Jim Jones.

(16,916 posts)His devotees are truly a cult. After having read the recent book about Jonestown, I would suggest the comparisons to Jones aren't far off the mark.

(13,881 posts)And wait till the police and military arrest/kill all of them.
Most of the 101st Alt-right Fighting Keyboardists would crap their pants if confronted by the authorities.
socialist_n_TN
(11,481 posts)"arrest/kill" ANY of them? The cop "unions" all supported Trump. I'm not sure about the military, but I don't really trust them either. At this point, the military would probably stay neutral.
Any self-defense against this type of scenario would be provided by ourselves alone. And the few antifa militias out there.
SCantiGOP
(13,881 posts)But I don't think commissioned law enforcement or active military would commit obvious treason and Ignore their sworn oaths to allow an illegal insurrection.
And if it comes down to "antifa militias" please surrender immediately rather than last 5 minutes against professional soldiers.
socialist_n_TN
(11,481 posts)The OP asked about Trump calling out his SUPPORTERS and inciting violence using them. NOT calling for the military to use violence against the people. So the Antifa militias would be going against other "amateurs" and NOT against
"professional soldiers". And maybe the cops.
SCantiGOP
(13,881 posts)will be going up against the police, and then, if necessary, the National Guard and then the US Armed Forces.
I'm not going to waste my time arguing that the army would sit back and let armed militias fight it out.
The Army will follow the orders of their Commander in Chief until such time as they judge those orders to be illegal or unconstitutional, at which time they would follow the directions of their chain of command and the Congress.
Precedent: In Nixon's waning days the Joint Chiefs were informed by the Sec of Defense and others at the highest level of government not to follow an order from Nixon to launch an attack, but to check with them at which time they could use the "incapacitated" clause in the constitutional amendment to immediately remove the President.

(73,723 posts)I do not think that Trump believes in a peaceful transfer of power. However, considering his cowardly nature, I doubt he will be more resistant at the end that George Wallace standing in that doorway.
He may encourage unrest among his alt-right followers. They would seem more likely to act out after Trump is removed.

(99,719 posts)If Trump urges his followers to foment an insurrection if impeachment proceedings begin I want the authorities to treat them like any other insurrectionists, wouldn't you ?

(11,481 posts)I've seen several people on this thread seemingly thinking that the cops are going to stop them. Or the military. I don't trust EITHER of those groups to "do the right thing".

(5,914 posts)We saw how formidable their revolutionary efforts are when they took over those public facilities in Oregon and settled in for a "siege". Within a week, they were literally asking the Internet to send them Doritos and Little Debbies.
And that was their best, their brightest, and their most motivated at work.

(11,481 posts)Antifa militias are the ONLY organized force at this time that would be guaranteed to take them on. The cops and the military are NOT an option to rely on for self-defense. That's going to be on us.

(841 posts)Trump has his hardcore followers who will follow him no matter what but he needs to keep some of the swing voters on his side so he is going back to the carnival-like campaign tactics. The thing is, that can work during a campaign when you are not in office and you position yourself as an outsider. But once you are president people expect you do get stuff done. Like I said, his hardcore followers eat this stuff up but the real audience will be those swing voters the Republicans need to win in 2018 and 2020. These stunts might actually turn them off.
Edit: But as to the taking up arms issue, yeah it is something of a concern. I don't think there will be some mass uprising of Trump supporters because most of them are all talk but all it takes is one nut to commit a mass shooting so that is worrisome.
