Now, why would a term-limited Governor spend his summer helping out another State Party (and picking up political chits in the process) in a battleground state? Hmm.

(12,804 posts)He's the best Dem politician we have who can verbally whip the Reich wingers and frustrate the Hell out of 'em. 1) He lives on a ranch, 2) he knows how to ride a horse (Western style) and treat a horse with respect -- remember W was terrified of horses and Romney's horse needs to be the Mercedes Benz of horses, and 3) he has a GREAT sense of humor that drives the Reich wingers bonkers. And 4) his popular poll numbers are in the 60% area.
There is also speculation, that Schweizter may run for Baucus' senate seat in 2016. Max Baucus' poll numbers are horrible and Schweitzer is natural favorite for the spot. Hey, if Obama can run for Prez after serving a few years as US Senate, Schweitzer can do the same.

(5,351 posts)My mom has said more than once that they hate that there are term limits in Montana because they'd vote for him to stay on as governor in a heartbeat. From the stories they've told me, he sounds like the "real deal", a down-to-earth guy who genuinely wants to do what's best for Montana and its people. They'd also enthusiastically vote for him for Prez, should he decide to run.
Edit: Oops, Ptah's post reminded me that I forgot about the Keystone XL pipeline--that's one area where my parents and a lot of other people in the state couldn't disagree more vehemently with Schweitzer. For their part, my parents think the pipeline is an absolutely terrible idea for the reasons enumerated here.

There is no perfect candidate and never will be. What Brian Schweitzer gives us is a politician with the fortitude and rhetorical skills to battle the Reichwingers, a la FDR and Teddy Roosevelt.

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) is expressing frustration with the debate in Washington
over the Keystone XL pipeline, which he strongly supports.
Ninety per cent of these jackasses that are complaining about the Keystone pipeline in
Washington, D.C., one year ago wouldn't have even known where the Keystone was. While
we were doing the heavy lifting here in Montana and in South Dakota and in Kansas and Oklahoma
... in Washington, D.C. ... all these great defenders had never heard of Keystone before,
Schweitzer said in an interview published Thursday.
