Discovery Communications Monday announced it has agreed to buy Scripps Networks Interactive in a $14.6 billion deal that creates a lifestyle programming engine with a global reach as cable companies navigate a disrupted media environment.
Scripps shares were up close to 1 percent in early trading while Silver Spring,Md.-based Discovery were down about 6 percent.
The deal called for Scripps shareholders to receive $90 a share, or about $11.9 billion, a 34 percent premium above where Scripps stock was valued when the talks were first reported nearly two weeks ago.
The $90 per share price includes $63 in cash and $27 a share in Class C Common shares of Discovery stock. Scripps debt is included in the deal, which brings its value to $14.6 billion.

(113,042 posts)As far as companies being generous, the insurance company I worked for was pretty nice with the swag. However, the IT company was extremely cheap. There was one holiday season where the only gift I received was a small rubber duck that they probably cost less than a $1.
I don't have a TV, but the last time that I did I would say that I watched the female oriented shows about an equal amount as the male oriented shows. It should be an interesting combination as the programming overlaps between the various networks.

(207,980 posts)So I never let my mother open the package of Snoopy glassware, LOL. And my last job was working with the networks, mainly CBS and FOX - The Simpsons, not FOX News. Since FOX tried harder, they used to send gifts, too. I have a jacket and a sweatshirt, not to mention all kinds of mainly Simpsons stuff. My wardrobe used to mainly consist of Bart Simpson tee shirts - I also wore America's Most Wanted, LOL. And one Halloween, I convinced my colleagues to dress up with me - FOX had sent me Simpsons masks. So we dressed as The Simpsons - I was Bart! I froze in short pants...
But that was what I got for Christmas at work.
