Really never seen anything like this happen before. The Romney campaign has went to all the papers who have been reporting on these most recent stories and demanded retractions. And every one of them said no dice, we aren't retracting anything. They are standing by their stories. They must have tremendous irrefutable evidence to do that.
Then for the icing on the cake I flipped to Fox cable and all I seen there were some very long faces. Looked like everyone there was about to start crying. Then I flipped back to MSNBC and everyone is grinning ear to ear. Big difference.
If nothing else we are going to find out how well the Romney campaign can handle a serious political crisis.
Here he has been calling President Obama a liar in his recent commercials and it is beginning to look like there is ample evidence to prove that Romney is the actual liar. This is a crisis of biblical proportions as far as a political crisis can be.

(26,355 posts)Though I am thinking that Romney will be feeling significant pain, likely enough to cost him what was left of his chances of winning the election.
Hopefully, the scumfuck gets prosecuted.

They have covered for everybody else. Remember Dubya and the National
Guard stuff? Dan Rather even lost his job over it... and that was just as true
and just as bad as Bain.

(13,390 posts)To people who were republicans or even Democrats who leaned a little right, Dubya was likable. I had a bias against him from the start so my opinion then was not very useful. But, I having seen him since and especially the contrast to W, I can kind of see where people got that.
As the election progresses, the difference in likability among the press, and general population is going to be enormous.

(8,224 posts)Right now it will likely limp to a second place finish. No one that could have a shot at winning at any point in their political future will want anything to do with this race once Rmoney is done with it. If it turns real ugly (much worse than this) we could see the Rs come up with a "some other guy" candidate to simply end the pain.
The "some other guy" candidate will simply serve the purpose of filling the ballot line and will be old and near the end of his political career. Ron Paul would be fun, but if it comes to this, it will not be Mr. Paul. They will dredge up some former Governor from somewhere, someone few know and has no other chance of ever mounting a campaign.
If it does not get much worse, they will suffer along with Romney, either way they will be assuming a loss. Shortly the real question will not be win or lose the Whitehouse, but whether they can reduce the down ballot damage by losing with "some other guy" at the top of the ticket.
The more fascinating bit is what they will do with the 100s of millions pledged to back Rmoney, once they conclude that it is a losing cause.

(8,224 posts)It is particularly true if there is some "rags to riches" element in their back story. Hard work, innovation, "rags to riches" and ending up wealthy are all perfectly fine with most folks, even most liberals. If you toss in a little "giving back to the community so that others may have the same opportunities", the rich person can end up very popular and featured in People magazine.
If on the other hand you have inherited wealth, plundering pension funds, outsourcing, closing factories, and financial manipulation, combined with no real innovation or hard work, the rich person can become quite unpopular. This can be reinforced by a lack of "giving back to the community" to create a very negative image.
It really is a matter of how you get there and what you do with it. This is why the story matters.

The War Room and Current TV have uncovered further evidence of Mitt Romneys lies about the extent of his ties to Bain after 1999, when he claims to have left the company. A 2003 document with the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission state that Romney held several executive positions at Bain Capital and its affiliates. The Massachusetts Ethics Commission filing distinguishes between the Bain companies in which he played an active role and others where he had no active role, Jennifer Granholm says.

(1,033 posts)out, it's now. This could be a gigantic story. This might be the biggest political scandal since Watergate, or at least since Lewinsky, if he gets in trouble with the SEC or the IRS.
At the very least, his campaign will sink and will stand no chance against Obama in November. At the worst, he could be in jail.

(34,845 posts)But I would not expect them to go after Romney before the election even if there were actionable items to look into.
Obama has this thing sewn up anyways (we must VOTE!) so it wouldn't be worth the effort to bring charges of using the Executive branch for partisan purposes.

(11,833 posts)Or 2002. Or whatever he claimed to the SEC. There's strong evidence he filed false claims for registered securities. That's a felony.
Pick any dates you want. Romney made his fortune outsourcing jobs - which led to higher unemployment. That's his plan if he's elected! The same failed policies that produced our current unemployment rates. Failed, discredited trickle down tax policy. Nothing but minimum wage jobs at home. Outsourcing skilled labor abroad. Vote Obama 2012.

(1,979 posts)He has been a liar since day one. I couldn't believe that MSM just let all of his lies go unchallenged! It's about time that the tide turns and the light is shined on this cockroach.
I really want to see his candidacy implode. This is the way it has to be in order for things to get better. The lies must be exposed to such an extent that to vote for this fraud shows a lack of character (or blatant racism) in the voter. period.
