So a friend of mine (old friend going back to high school - football) sent the image below in a group text. He's a good open minded liberal - but probably wouldn't use that word himself - guy.
I got what he meant but I'm curious what DU'ers think.
Funny?
Inappropriate?
Not the same thing?
Offensive?
What do you think?

(13,468 posts)That was comedy, so I think it is inappropriate to compare real soldiers to a character that was meant to be funny.

(22,566 posts)"trans people have always been in the military," but it's a poor illustration, because cross-dressing is an action that doesn't necessarily indicate trans. Also, Klinger did so to try and show he was mentally ill. I think it's probably well-intentioned but misses the mark; I don't see trans people posting it, so I don't see how it's helpful.

(51,308 posts)Nothing at all to do with transgendered individuals. Perhaps you could educate your friend.
Beat me to it.

(3,163 posts)Klinger was wearing a dress because he wanted to get out of the military. Today's issue is about people who want to stay in or join the military. The picture makes no point.

(20,411 posts)Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
