BTW I know the area well and they have pulled up the RR tracks, sold the
metal for scrap, and trees are now growing in the middle of the old buildings.

Classic tribalism behavior. Internalize success and externalize failure. Everything good that happens is because the tribe deserves goodness and everything bad that happens is because "the other" is against the tribe.

who was blind from birth. He encountered a local osteopath with some unorthodox ideas, who told my friend to come to his office so he could cure his blindness. My friend said to me, 'If I coulda seen him, I woulda punched him in the nose.'

Poor analogy, perhaps, but it's what comes to mind when tRump announces these grandiose plans that have no basis in reality.
