House Republicans stood together in Wednesdays 244-185 vote to repeal Obamacare the 33rd vote in the chamber to roll back the law.Five Democrats broke with their party to join them, two more than last years repeal vote. All five represent Republican-leaning districts. All five were among 39 Democrats to vote against final passage of the Affordable Care Act in March 2010.
Rep. Jim Matheson (D-UT)
Matheson, a Blue Dog serving since 2001, voted against the GOPs repeal effort last year. He flipped this time around to realign with Republicans against Obamas signature law. I have voted against the health care bill at every opportunity in the legislative process, Matheson said in a statement about his vote. Plain and simple, the bill is a flawed effort that fails to address the critical issue of rising health costs.
Rep. Larry Kissell (D-NC)
Kissell, a second-term congressman, voted against the Republican repeal legislation last year. But he has been careful not to align himself with Obama, refusing to endorse his reelection bid. Kissell has broken with his party on multiple occasions, including on holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt.
Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-NC)
McIntyre, a Blue Dog who has represented rural North Carolina since 1997, joined Republicans last year to vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act. How conservative is his district? Heres a hint: He has refused to endorse President Obama for reelection.
Rep. Mike Ross (D-AR)
Ross, a congressman since 2001 who serves as co-chair of the increasingly extinct Blue Dog Caucus, was an early Democratic opponent of the law and has consistently positioned himself it. He joined Republicans to vote to repeal it last year. Ross has sought to make himself amenable to his mostly conservative constituents by aligning against Obama and Democrats on numerous issues. Hes retiring at the end of his term.
Rep. Dan Boren (D-OK)
Boren, a Blue Dog who has served Oklahoma since 2005, last year voted with Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act. He has gone to great lengths to distinguish himself from Democrats, including by cosponsoring anti-abortion legislation and voting for a hard-right measure calling for a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.
Hes not seeking reelection this November.

(26,282 posts)Home of Ft. Bragg and Pope AFB. So, some of his area is rural, but these are the majority of his constituents, which I find ironic in two ways:
1. there are many minorities in the military
2. the military not only has "socialized" medicine, but also socialized housing, shopping, recreation, etc.
I don't know anything about the other NC Rep.
on edit: the other NC Rep's irony? He represents the district where most of the Lumbee Indians live. They are a combination of Indian, black, and white blood, and ALL of the Lost Colony surnames are found in their midst, including Locklear, including the actress Heather Locklear, whose father is a Lumbee.
The second irony: this area used to be rich with textile miles, but those are long outsourced, and this area of NC is now very poor, and ACA is a god send.

(25,592 posts)Just not as far to the Right - yet. They are still working on it. If they move too fast, too many people would notice.
A little dated, but still happening.

They also attack Kucinich's as another who fits their "unelectable liberal" profile. The truth is that their profile does not work. That's not surprising. They are not trying to get real democrats elected. They may cite Clinton, but in many ways, Clinton was more republican than Nixon.

Basically, the Democratic party has been taken over by Republicans.

(29,972 posts)The five Democrats voted against the original Affordable Care Act when it was passed in March 2010. Of the five, Boren and Ross are retiring, while Kissell and McIntyre face incredibly difficult races in Republican-leaning districts and dont plan to endorse President Obamas reelection campaign. Matheson also faces a tough reelection against Republican Mia Love, who would be the first black GOP woman to serve in Congress if she wins.
All five lawmakers also were among the 17 Democrats who voted with Republicans two weeks ago to hold Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. in contempt of Congress.
