The announced opposition by Senators Lee and Paul was because Trumpcare didn't do enough to repeal the ACA. Senator Moran wanted a new "clean slate" bill to replace Obamacare with, one that went through normal hearings etc. rather than being stitched together in secret back room dealings. Theoretically Mitch McConnell will offer to use the "two year transition period" after repeal of Obamacare to write such a bill under normal order. which possibly could win back Moran's vote. He could even promise McCain that Democrats will be allowed to offer amendments, which theoretically could count as "a bi-partisan process."
Personally I don't think pure repeal with delay has a real chance of passing the Senate, for a lot of reasons. But McConnell is back to having a potential of 51 votes for it (with the Pence held in reserve), one more than he needs, unless other Republicans now step forward to kill it.

(25,111 posts)They hate the good ole USA and her people, and knowing that over 30 million will lose their healthcare and thousands will die due to that, keeps my shaking head. I do not trust GOPs. They are a selfish bunch who does not care. McCain can shove it. As to Collins, I hold my breath.
