I don't believe we'll see a "people as food" element to it, but recall the kind of lives that were lived in that film? That's the portrayal and view of the future that Republicans see and they're both trying to stem it off and eliminate all of those that would be the "lazy" deadbeats of that world that exist today.
I'm almost afraid to rewatch that film to see the similarities that might exist alongside things like the Handmaids Tale.

(1,124 posts)I'd recommend people watch Soylent Green (even though it is old and Charleston Heston was one of its stars). It was such a shocking movie for its time (much more than the original Planet of the Apes which is roughly from the same time period).

(6,399 posts)Not something that can always be done, but it's important as they're bringing to life the story that was written and created by others. They bring it to life and add their own spin, but it's not their tale the majority of the time. And they can often bring about characters that are far removed from their own leanings as well, which is key for the very good actors.

(1,124 posts)I saw Soylent Green at the drive-in movies in 1974 - so that gives you some idea of my age LOL! Charleston Heston was admired as an actor and spokesman-ship for the NRA was no where on the radar. He did bring his characters to life. Unfortunately some people are inclined to boycott a movie (especially an older one) due to an actor's political views. My point was this movie is worth watching.
