Obama camp: What is Romney hiding by withholding tax returns?
One day after President Barack Obama pressed Mitt Romney to be an "open book" on his personal finances, the incumbent's reelection campaign released a new web video suggesting that the Republican standard-bearer may be hiding something improper by refusing to release more of his tax returns.
The online attack features CNN's Wolf Blitzer asking former Republican National Committee Chairman Haley Barbour whether Romney should release his information, and Barbour replying: "I would." (Not featured: Barbour telling Blitzer that the issue didn't amount to " diddly" in the campaign).
The video showcases media suggestions that Romney might have eluded American taxes by parking money in places like the Cayman Islands and mocks Romney's response as "Just take our word for it." "The American people deserve the facts," the ad says.
It shows Romney sidestepping the issues in Republican primary debates, saying "maybe" and "time will tell" when asked whether he will follow his father George Romney's standard-setting decision to release a decade's worth of tax returns.

(52,224 posts)you don't want to release your tax returns until you've looked at them from a political angle and are prepared to answer any question.
most politicians have relatively simple filings, so it only takes no more than a few hours, maybe a few days.
in rmoney's case, this process takes about a month. per tax year.

(50,338 posts)obviously they have already been "looked at" already. There is NO excuse for not releasing them unless there is information in them that is very damaging to him, imo.

(52,224 posts)they have to have a response ready for every dodge and gimmick and trick he used.
and you know he paid his tax guys plenty to use every trick in the book.

(50,338 posts)so that could not be used as the reason for delay. I suspect it is more likely there is NO believable 'response' to what the returns will reveal and that's the reason they have not been released.

(31,849 posts)I wonder what, if anything, would give those "leaning" towards romney greater heartburn:
1) Definitive proof that romney gamed the taxation system; or,
2) Definitive proof that romney committed voter fraud when he voted from his son's unfinished basement (or was it his house in California, or his house in New Hampshire) in 2010?
My guess is none of these would matter in the least, so long as the Black guy doesn't get back in.
